Chapter 9
by adminUpon hearing this, Ophelia stopped in her tracks.
In the past, the original Ophelia had made many jokes in order to please her fiancé Fernando.
The most memorable one was when she learned from Vera that Fernando liked bold and daring girls, so she wore a beautiful backless dress, only to be publicly criticized by Fernando as shameless!
That time, in front of everyone, the original Ophelia saw her fiancé take Vera’s hand and declare, as if making a vow: “I only like… Vera, the charming Vera.”
This one sentence “charming Vera” turned her, the legitimate fiancée, into a complete laughingstock!
Since then, she never wore any dresses again.
What a foolish girl she was.
To someone who doesn’t like you, even breathing is wrong. What does wearing a dress or not have to do with it?
Ophelia shook her head.
Vera thought she had hit a nerve and had a hint of smugness on her face as she said, “Ophelia, I’m just looking out for you. After all… I know Fernando’s preferences best.”
She was clearly flaunting her ambiguous relationship with Fernando.
Ophelia lightly smiled, without leaving any traces, but every word cut deep.
“You call Fernando so intimately, but so what? A marriage between wealthy families values compatibility in social status. Fernando will never marry someone like you. You’re at best a mistress in the shadows.”
These words were truly heartless!
“You… ” Vera held back her anger and retorted, “What makes you any better than me? You’re just a despised and detested heiress who’s fallen from grace!”
“You’re right about that.” Ophelia turned around calmly and elegantly, and said casually, “I own nearly half of the Tudor family’s shares, I have several properties under my name, and my net worth is worth at least tens of billions. Isn’t that a real ‘heiress’?”
After Ophelia finished speaking, she smiled at Vera and confidently walked into her own room.
Vera was left speechless and almost choked on her own breath.
This was the first time she had realized the gap between herself and Ophelia!
But… just wait and see!
You won’t be proud for long!
Vera had a smug smile on her face when the servant downstairs called out, “Miss Vera, Master Fernando is here and wants to personally take you to school!”
“I know, I’ll be right down.”
Vera’s eyes flickered slightly, and she deliberately took a crutch as she went downstairs, hobbling down the stairs.
In the living room downstairs, Fernando had just glanced at his wristwatch when he heard Vera cry out in surprise. He rushed over and caught Vera just as she was about to trip, asking worriedly, “Why didn’t you call me? Are you hurt?”
“No, I’m fine.” Vera nestled in Fernando’s arms, her eyes slightly red. “I didn’t sleep well last night and was a little dizzy.”
“What happened? Did you cry?” Fernando’s face turned cold in an instant, with a hint of anger in his tone.
“Did Ophelia bully you again?”
“No, she didn’t…”
“Vera, tell me the truth!”
Vera bit her lip and refused to speak, but Fernando got impatient and asked the servant standing nearby.
This servant had received many favors from Vera and immediately spilled the beans about what had happened yesterday, adding a few exaggerations for good measure.
“Miss Five never cared about Miss Vera, not only did she take Miss Vera’s room yesterday, she even threatened to kick her out of the Tudor family! She’s really arrogant and domineering! Even the master can’t do anything about her.”
“This is outrageous!”
Fernando had a dark expression on his face and looked fierce, as if he was about to devour someone. Even his voice had risen a few notches, as he asked, “Where is she?”
Seeing Fernando looking like he was about to settle scores with Ophelia, Vera felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart but still tried to persuade him, “Brother Fernando, please forget it. I’m in a difficult position and it’s inevitable that I’ll suffer some grievances…”
“No, that’s not okay. She takes advantage of your kindness and is getting more and more outrageous. Today, I must teach her a lesson!” Fernando said fiercely.
As soon as he finished speaking, a melodious voice came from the corner of the spiral staircase, “Who do you want to teach a lesson?”
Footsteps were heard and everyone turned to see a girl in a light green waist-tied long dress, with a slender waist that was especially eye-catching, and skin as fair as snow, delicate and beautiful. Her black hair cascaded straight down to her waist.
And above all, there was her exquisite and flawless face, lightly powdered and dazzling, like a glowing jade that was not stained with any dust, making it impossible to look away.
Fernando suppressed his amazement and seemed somewhat incredulous, “Ophelia?”
This was Ophelia?
In the past, she never wore makeup or any skirts, always dressing herself up tightly, even wearing sportswear or casual clothes to banquets, which earned her the ridicule of being a country bumpkin with no sense of aesthetics!
But now, she had undergone a tremendous transformation from head to toe, inside and out, even her aura had changed dramatically, stunning the audience and creating an unattainable and distant feeling.
Fernando was stunned and after a while, he regained his senses, but his eyes still showed disgust, “Ophelia, listen carefully, if you ever dare to bully Vera again, I won’t be polite to you!”
Ophelia slowly descended the stairs, each step she took made a crisp and clear sound, like the sound of a beautiful piano, striking people’s hearts.
Looking at the girl coming towards him, Fernando was mentally preparing himself to deal with her tantrums.
But Ophelia just passed him by and walked away without even giving him a glance.
She could take down two people with one punch, and he wasn’t worth her time.
Ophelia left without a second thought, not even acknowledging Fernando’s existence. He was stunned and incredulous that she could ignore him like that.
Even Vera, who usually fawned over Fernando and made him feel important, was surprised by Ophelia’s indifference to his questioning. It made her wonder how she could continue her one-woman show.
Vera gritted her teeth and put on a brave face.
“Fernando, can you take me to school? I’m going to be late.”
“Sure,” he replied.
The two of them left the Tudor family mansion hand in hand like a couple.
Fernando opened the car door for Vera and helped her fasten her seat belt.
As Fernando drove his car to the gate of the mansion, Ophelia was standing on the roadside hailing a taxi.
It was ridiculous that the legitimate heiress had no money and was broke, with her card frozen by Maddox, and even her family driver not allowed to take her out.
Maddox thought she would be afraid, but she would make them regret ever crossing her.
Ophelia patiently waited for the taxi, feeling the cool breeze blowing up her skirt.
Not far away, Vera sitting in the passenger seat saw Ophelia on the roadside and said, “Fernando, why don’t we pick up Ophelia? After all, she’s your fiancée on paper. We can’t just leave her here alone…”
Fernando immediately refused without even thinking, “I feel disgusted just looking at her. How could I let her dirty my car?”
As soon as he finished speaking, a top-of-the-line luxury car worth at least 60 million slowly stopped in front of Ophelia…
