Chapter 40
by adminAngelia wiped her tears and didn’t put up any defenses in front of Jerome. “Every time I think about it, I feel angry and heartbroken.”
“I will make her kneel in front of you and apologize,” Jerome promised firmly.
Angelia shook her head. “People like Amanda Charles will not apologize sincerely. I don’t need her to pay with her life, and my grandmother doesn’t want anyone else’s life either. I don’t want to commit murder and crime because of her. What Amanda Charles cares about most is not only Sammie, but also money, status, reputation, prestige, and face.”
Angelia probably guessed what Jerome was thinking and looked up at him firmly. “Jerome, it doesn’t matter if you don’t go to Louisiana this time. I don’t need immediate results, and I don’t need you to rush. You can do what you want without worrying about me.”
Jerome stroked Angelia’s face, feeling the moisture from her tears on his fingertips. On the Swiss Airlines side, whether or not they received the news, they had already started hoarding cash, three days faster than he expected.Originally, this matter was rushed and lacked three days of preparation time.
There will be too many changes, too many unexpected events, and too much uncontrollability.
However, if he doesn’t go, Swiss Airlines will definitely be able to succeed.
The next time Swiss Airlines takes action, it may be a year later, and Amanda Charles only needs to put a billion in it to have no worries.
Just like her firm opposition to the acquisition, because she has enough bargaining chips, she will not be easily tempted and compromised.
What’s more important is that the last medicinal material incident was forcibly suppressed.
He has already investigated and found that on the surface, the Minister of the Drug Administration is linked to the company, but in fact, the person who is really linked to the company has more power than the governor above the Minister.
Moreover, the identity is mysterious, even his friend who works in the National Assembly came to persuade him not to touch the company, unless he uses his father’s relationship.
He doesn’t want to use his father’s relationship, which will involve too many people.
There are many pharmaceutical companies, and there are many large-scale ones in the world.
Considering everything, it would be more convenient to acquire other pharmaceutical companies.
But… when it comes to Angelia… he doesn’t want to think about it rationally.
Her personality is too soft and too kind, and he always worries that she will be bullied.
“The plan has changed, and I’m leaving today,” Jerome said in a deep voice.
Angelia felt reluctant in her heart.
“What time?”
“I checked the flight ticket. There is a flight at 5:50 pm.”
Angelia nodded.
“It’s still early now. You can go to sleep first. I’ll wake you up around 3 pm, and you can have some snacks before you leave.”
Jerome held Angelia’s hand and said softly, “After you finish washing up, come sleep with me.”
“Okay,” Angelia agreed without thinking, “I’ll take a shower now.”
She went into the bathroom and came out.
Aunt Harris greeted her, “The village chief’s wife said you haven’t eaten anything. Come and have some food.”Angelia shook her head, saying that she wasn’t hungry.
She told Aunt Harris that they could take the extra food and yesterday’s leftovers from the fridge if they wanted, as they should still be good.
Aunt Harris thanked her for her kindness.
Angelia walked towards the west room and gently pushed the door open.
Jerome was lying in bed with his eyes closed, looking as meticulous as he usually did.
Angelia draped a blanket over his stomach and he opened his eyes, which were bloodshot.
She apologized for waking him up and he scooted over to make room for her.
Because there was only one pillow, Jerome offered to be her pillow and held her in his arms.
Angelia smelled Jerome’s clean scent and couldn’t believe that a month ago, he was someone she had to look up to.
Now, they seemed like an intimate couple.
Jerome asked if she enjoyed their last encounter in the bathroom.
Angelia was initially confused but then understood what he meant and felt embarrassed.
She suggested he go back to sleep since he hadn’t slept all night.
Jerome was disappointed and asked if she didn’t like it.
Angelia reassured him that she did like it and that it wasn’t uncomfortable.
Jerome was happy and laughed. This smile should be the brightest one that has ever appeared on his face.
‘That’s love,’ he said to himself, kissing her forehead. ‘I love it too.’
Angelia didn’t look up at him or say anything.
He had originally hugged her, but now he held her in his arms and closed his eyes.
His successful career, composure, and wisdom always made people overlook his age, making them think that his reserved nature was something that only people in their forties possessed.
Looking back now, Jerome was only twenty-six, no older than her!
Angelia fell asleep in a daze, and when she woke up and looked at the time, it was already 3:20 pm.
She quickly got up, waking Jerome up in the process.
‘You can lie down for a while longer. I’ll make the noodles and call you when they’re ready. You can have some before you leave,’ Angelia said softly.
Jerome looked at her steadily…
In the past, traveling was a breeze for him. From one city to another, from one country to another.
As he said, he never stayed in a country for more than three months. He would just get up and leave without any nostalgia or reminiscence.
But now, because of her, he didn’t want to travel anymore…
In the kitchen, Angelia had already washed the vegetables she had picked from the garden and checked the information about Swiss Airlines while waiting for the water to boil.
Strangely enough, there was almost no information about Swiss Airlines online.
Either it was a very unreliable financial institution, or it was powerful enough to block information online.
Based on Jerome’s expression, she suspected it was the latter.
When the water boiled, she added the greens and wanted to add some meatballs too, which the chef had prepared for dinner.
When she turned around, Jerome was standing behind her.
‘Just wait for me for a little while longer, it’ll be ready soon,’ Angelia said.
Jerome nodded. She quickly went to get five meat dumplings and put noodles in the boiling water, staring at the boiling pot.
“Is the credit card on you?” Jerome asked.
“Hmm,” Angelia replied.
To speed up the process, she added cold water to the pot and continued to boil on high heat.
“If you encounter any problems, just use money to solve them. Don’t bear everything alone. If you can’t solve it, remember to call me,” Jerome said worriedly.
Although there were only a few sentences, the restraint she had been holding back flowed out of her eyes.
“Jerome.”
Angelia called his name, sighed, turned around, and looked at him, hesitating to speak.
“What’s wrong?” Jerome asked.
“The Swiss Airlines thing is very tricky, right?” Jerome didn’t say anything.
“I just thought about it. They have been deployed for so long and have so much funding. Even if it is fundraising, it is impossible to move that fast. Although I don’t understand finance and trading, if the gap between your funding and Swiss Airlines is too large, going in is like giving away money. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter. Revenge is a dish best served cold. I’m not in a hurry, really,” Angelia said sincerely.
They had talked about this topic before going to bed. He didn’t want Angelia to blame herself.
“I’m not just going for your sake this time. The acquisition has not been completed mainly because of Amanda Charles’s opposition. If she needs money, that’s another matter.” He promised to avenge her, and he would do it. This was not just a simple acquisition case, but a matter concerning his woman. The acquisition plan can be changed at will, but his woman’s matter is a must.
Jerome said, and she couldn’t oppose it anymore.
“Then be careful,” Angelia said.
“Water splashed out.” Jerome looked behind her.”Oh oh oh.” Angelia immediately turned off the stove.
The noodles were ready, but they were too hot. She poured them into cold water to cool them down quickly, then took them out and made a mixed noodle dish with added ingredients and meatballs, which she served to him.
Jerome sat in the kitchen eating noodles.
Angelia propped her chin up and watched him, glancing at the time. It was already 3:30 pm, and in fact, Jerome had not slept for long.
“I’ll drive you to the airport. You can sleep a little in the car,” Angelia said.
“I’m even more worried if you go back alone,” Jerome replied.
“I can drive, too. I only had a little bit of wine at noon, much less than you. Besides, I’ll only be back around 5 pm when it’s still summer and the sun hasn’t set yet. I’ll be fine,” Angelia insisted.
“I don’t want you to be so tired.”
“I want to see you off,” Angelia persisted.
After Jerome finished eating, Angelia and he went to the car.
“Are you going out now?” the villagers asked curiously.
“Jerome has some urgent matters to attend to and has to leave first,” Angelia said vaguely as she sat in the driver’s seat.
The villagers looked at Jerome’s car and said to the woman next to them, “My son said that Angelia’s husband’s car is worth millions. I don’t know where Angelia found such a man?”
“I heard that Angelia is remarried. This is her second husband, and the first one was quite wealthy and good-looking too.”
“Is it true? It can’t be.”
“Why not? I’ve even met Angelia’s ex-husband before,” the person looked around and whispered, “Last time, Angelia’s ex-husband came to see Mrs. Diana senior and made her faint.”
“So, Alyssa is not Angelia’s current husband then.””It should be from her ex-husband. I saw him taking Alyssa away, maybe the child was awarded to Angelia’s ex-husband.”
“That’s fine, anyway Angelia is young, and her current husband is good. Having two more children is not a problem.”
“Ah, like mother like daughter, Angelia’s mother seems to have been married several times, with several different men…”
We have arrived at the airport.
Angelia looked at Jerome, who was still asleep.
She was afraid of delaying the flight, so she nudged Jerome.
He held her hand and opened his eyes.
“We’re here, you can sleep on the plane later,” Angelia instructed.
Jerome glanced at the time, it was almost too late. “I’m leaving.”
Angelia nodded.
“To…”
“To…”
They both said the same word in unison, and they both paused.
“Okay,” Jerome replied, leaned in, held the back of her head, and kissed her lips.
Angelia didn’t have much experience with kissing, it seemed like it only happened with him. She cautiously kissed him back.
Jerome increased the intensity of the kiss, infused with a strong reluctance, and then let go of her, instructing, “Don’t come to see me off, go back early, and message me when you get home.”
Angelia nodded, “Have a good trip. Oh, and I washed your clothes from before. I’ll give them back to you next time I see you.”
“It’s the same if you leave them with you,” Jerome opened the car door.
Angelia instinctively followed him out of the car, longing for him.
It was just a brief separation, but she was already reluctant.
What would she do when Jerome had to go back to France in the future?
Angelia also regretted her own mentality.
Jerome frowned, her attachment and reluctance were like poison, infiltrating his marrow.
Despite the difficulties, he was determined and promised, “I will set up the headquarters in Detroit in the future.”After speaking, he turned around and walked away without looking back.
Angelia, however, stood at the front of the car until he was no longer visible.
Does this mean that he won’t leave after establishing the headquarters in North Carolina?
The seed that had once fallen in her heart seemed to have taken root and was now sprouting.
The next day, the first thing Angelia did when she woke up was check her phone.
Jerome had sent a simple two-word message: “Arrived safely.”
She thought about calling him, but seeing the message, she just replied with a simple “Okay.”
After getting up, brushing her teeth, and washing her face, her phone suddenly rang.
She answered it, only to hear Amanda Charles’ sharp voice on the other end before she even said anything: “You can’t just be lazy and stay at Sammie’s house just because your grandmother died.”
Angelia was too lazy to argue with her and said, “You make Sammie divorce me, and I’ll sign the papers immediately!”
“I was waiting for you to say that. Bring your marriage certificate to the civil affairs bureau now,” Amanda Charles commanded before hanging up the phone.
Angelia put her phone away, happy to go to the civil affairs bureau for a divorce.
However, the divorce certificate was still in Columbia’s rented house, so she had to go get it.
Worried about unexpected trouble, she put a self-defense baton in her bag and a fruit knife in her pocket.
An hour and a half later, she returned to the rental house, looking at the messy fragments, clothes, and broken appliances on the ground, feeling like she had arrived at a garbage dump.
Only Sammie could have made her home this way.
Truly, being with garbage could even turn oneself into garbage!
Her phone rang again, and it was Amanda Charles calling.
She answered.”What? Didn’t you promise to get a divorce? Why haven’t you come yet? Do you want to regret it?” Amanda Charles asked sarcastically.
“I’m here now.” Angelia found the marriage certificate and household registration book, put them in her bag, and took a taxi to the civil affairs bureau.
Amanda Charles saw Angelia coming and without any explanation, slapped her across the face.
Angelia dodged and, feeling angry, slapped Amanda Charles back.
Amanda Charles covered her face in disbelief and said, “You’re late and you still hit me?”
Angelia looked at Amanda Charles coldly and said, “You killed my grandmother. Hitting you is nothing.”
“How could I have killed your grandmother? She was already dying. People don’t just die from a few words. My words weren’t poison arrows,” Amanda Charles denied.
Angelia knew Amanda Charles would say that. She had no conscience or morality, so how could she feel guilty?
“What about Sammie? Didn’t he come to get a divorce?” Angelia asked coldly.
“He’s inside,” Amanda Charles said viciously and went inside.
As soon as Angelia entered, she heard Amanda Charles shout, “Grab her for me.”
Two tall men rushed over and restrained Angelia’s arms.
Amanda Charles came over and slapped Angelia four times, scolding her, “How dare you hit me? You’re just a poor idiot.”
Angelia’s face was burning with pain, and she glared at Amanda Charles.
“You slut, you dare to stare at me?” Amanda Charles slapped Angelia again.
With too much force, Angelia turned her face, and her snow-white face was covered in handprints.
“What are you doing, Mom?” Sammie came out of the room.
“What am I doing? Do you know she just hit me?” Amanda Charles angrily replied.”That’s definitely because you have to hit her first before she hits you. I understand Angelia’s temper, she won’t get angry for no reason.” Amanda Charles became angrier, “She told me that a slap was just the beginning and that she wants to avenge her grandmother. She thinks I killed her grandmother. Do you want to keep an enemy around to kill me?”
“Last time it was your fault, you knew Angelia’s grandmother was seriously ill, yet you still angered her grandmother. Apologize to Angelia, she is a forgiving person and won’t hold it against you.” Before Sammie could finish speaking, Amanda Charles slapped her in the face, trembling with anger and shouting, “What did you say? You want me to apologize to her? Whose fault is it? She used so much of my money and I don’t even have the right to say a few words? Now you are helping others bully your mother.”
Sammie covered her face, knowing that Amanda Charles was angry and begged, “I’m not bullying you, why do you have to force me? Can’t you just let your son be happy?”
“I’m doing this for your own good, would I harm you? You are my son. I definitely want you to be happy. Do you think you will be happy with Angelia? She has nothing, not even 20,000 Dollar in her account. Is such a woman worthy of our family?
Besides, she hates us now. Get a divorce, Sammie, Aimee is so much better than her! She even came back from studying abroad, and Mom likes her.” Amanda Charles said earnestly.
Sammie turned around and looked at Angelia.
Angelia had no expression on her face, looking at him coldly, without any emotion.
He frowned and gritted his teeth, “Mom, can I talk to you alone for a few minutes?”
“What else do you want to say to me?” Amanda Charles was puzzled.
Sammie pushed Amanda Charles and went into the room to close the door.Amanda Charles crossed her arms and said unhappily, “What do you want to tell me? If you want to convince me to accept Angelia, it’s impossible. I hate her so much that I want to tear off her seductive face when I see her.”
“Mom, there’s something I’ve been hiding from you.”
“What is it? You didn’t buy a house for that slut, did you?” Amanda Charles raised her voice.
“I’m actually gay and I like men. I don’t have that kind of feeling for women, including Aimee,” Sammie said.
