Chapter 4

“So, what did you talk with Victoria?” I question him.

Edward looks at Victoria and Victoria looks at Albert.

“What is it? Why don’t you talk to me, Edward?” After a short silence, I decide to ask him.

“You will have the answer when time is ripe, Elise.” Victoria answers.

Edward suppresses his laughter while Herbert buries his face in his hands.

“From whom did you learn that, Vic?” I ask in curiosity, and she points at Herbert.

Herbert removes his hands and says, “Yeah, I just said that. It’s my pearl of wisdom. I had no idea that she would catch them up so fast.”

“It’s time for us to get back.” I say.

“I’ll accompany you to your pack.” Albert says as he steps forward.

“No, Albert, you don’t need to bother.” I refuse him politely.

“It’s really nothing, Elise.” He replies.

Eventually, it is decided that Albert would accompany Victoria and me to our pack. We head outside the pack house and towards my pack. Victoria is walking between me and Albert. You see, this is how it feels to work on our relationship. Albert takes the first step, and I just have to walk with him side by side.

I’m so occupied by my thoughts that I didn’t even notice a figure approaching us.

“You liar!”

The comer is nobody but Jessica, the one who has been after Albert for a long time. And now, her eyes are filled with fury and fire.

“You told me that you believe Albert and I are mates! And now, you have somehow tricked him into believing that YOU are his mate! You are so treacherous!”

People have gathered around us.

“Jessica, go back to your house.” Albert orders her.

“No, I won’t go back to my house! Not until I hear the truth from her!”

Suddenly, Athena emerges from the crowd and grabs Jessica. “Let’s go, Jess.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Granny. I want to know the truth.”

“Jess, you can’t disobey your Alpha’s order. Everything will be explained to you when the time is right. And for now, you have to come with me.”

Jessica doesn’t rebel anymore. She silently goes with her grandmother. Albert, Victoria and I move away from the crowd and resume our journey towards my pack.

After entering my house, mom takes Victoria to her room. She is probably gong to give her share of scolding.

I turn to Albert and thank him for accompanying me and Victoria here.

“Can I have a word with you, Elise?” He asks.

“Sure.” I know what he wants to talk about. I lead him to my room.

“Why did Jessica behaved that way today?” He asks me.

I begin to tell him about the day when Jolene and I went to meet Jessica. He listens patiently while I speak, and I finish off by saying, “I had to lie to her in order to seek answers from her.”

“And today was the second time you met her?” Albert asks.

“Yes. I didn’t have time to meet her again and explain things to her. But I think I wil tell her everything soon.”

The next day, we are informed that Mount Guardian Pack is organizing the Socials. I am a bit hesitant, because I’m going to see the younger female cousin of the person who was killed by my mate.

It’s Alpha Roslyn. I have met her twice. At the Socials when she was declared Alpha and at her brother’s funeral.
