Chapter 25
by adminWhen cleaning Jerome’s room, she found that his clothes, including his black pants, were all thrown in the bathroom.
Her face flushed with embarrassment as she hesitated between washing or not washing them. But when she thought about how he put down his work to pick up Alyssa and went to find her, she felt touched.
She washed the clothes and hung them on the balcony since summer clothes dry quickly. After finishing everything, it was already 9:30.
She prepared to cook when her phone rang, showing an unknown caller. She hung up, but the phone rang again, this time from the same unknown caller. Thinking it might be important, she answered, “Hello.”
“Angelia, it’s Neville,” he said softly. Angelia regretted answering the call and asked if he needed anything. “I found your phone, and it’s with me now. I live in room 1601 of building 2. Come get it,” Neville said.
Angelia scratched her head and didn’t want to have any more interactions with him. “You know my address, so just send it to my house,” she replied. “Are you not coming to see me?” Neville said, disappointed.
She thought she had made it clear, but apparently not. “What does coming to see you prove? Forgiving you means we have a chance to be together again? No, when it comes to matters of the heart, there is no forgiveness or not. It’s just whether the love is dead or not. My mother told me that when a man cheats once, he will cheat again. Don’t think he can change. So, don’t waste your time on me. Being with me is a death sentence,” Angelia said bluntly.
“Then how can I prove it to you? Except for what happened with Lillian, I haven’t done anything wrong to you. I even talked to Lillian about it,” Neville pleaded.
“That’s enough,” Angelia said, not wanting to say anything more.”You definitely don’t know, but Jerome is in trouble,” Neville said as Angelia was about to hang up the phone.
“What does that mean?” Angelia frowned.
“He offended someone, and someone wants to ruin him. He should be worried about the Wilmington incident now, and this is just the beginning,” Neville said coldly.
“Who did he offend?” Angelia asked in shock.
Jerome said it, and for now, the headquarters cannot know about this. In other words, few people currently know about this.
Neville must know something if he can say it.
“If you want to know, come to room 1601 in Building 2. If you want Jerome dead, feel free to tell him you came to see me,” Neville said and hung up the phone.
The more Angelia thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. If it involved drugs, the other party couldn’t be a good person. If she could find out who was behind the scenes, at least Jerome could be prepared and counterattack with specificity.
She picked up her bag, thought for a moment, took out a self-defense electric baton from her suitcase, put it in her bag, and went to the hospital.
Knocking on the door of 1601, no one answered her.
She pushed it open suspiciously and did not see anyone on the hospital bed. Suddenly, a figure rushed up and pressed her against the wall.
Neville raised a warm smile. “I knew we would be together someday.”
Angelia looked at him calmly. “I think you know why I came here.”
Neville continued to smile without directly answering her, but instead asked, “Yesterday, I came out of the operating room and didn’t see you. I waited for you for a long time, but you didn’t show up. Fortunately, I found your phone in the supermarket. I was really afraid you changed your number.”
Angelia had no patience to listen to this and asked directly, “Who wants to harm Jerome? Did those people prepare drugs? Are they from North Carolina? Do I know them?”Neville maintains a gentle demeanor, “Can’t you be a little more compassionate towards me?”
Angelia realizes that Neville has been evading the issue and gets a little angry, “When you slept with Lillian, were you being compassionate towards me? And when you both framed me together, wasn’t that even more heartless?”
Neville furrows his brow, “You wouldn’t give in to me at that time. I was 24 years old, full of youthful vigor, and Lillian looked a bit like you. I was drunk and mistook her for you.”
“So it’s still my fault. Even now, you’re still finding excuses, which shows that you don’t think you’re wrong. How can I trust that you won’t cheat again?” She wriggles out of his embrace.
Neville grabs her wrist, “I know I was wrong. After you left, I realized how terribly wrong I was. I lost my most beloved gemstone because of a single mistake. How could I not reflect and repent? If I didn’t repent, I wouldn’t have gone to great lengths to find you.”
Angelia sneers and looks at him mockingly.
Neville, usually disguised as a warm and sunny man, always wears a gentle and harmless smile. Even when she is being willful, he always appears to be accommodating.
She was young at that time and was deceived by appearances.
If she had been a little smarter, more rational, less emotional, and less pink-colored in her thinking, she would have been able to see the subtle relationship between Neville and Lillian.
She wouldn’t have been so badly hurt by them.”If you had reflected, after I left, you should have broken up with Lillian, but you didn’t!
You just got bored of Lillian in the five years, just like how you got bored of me at the beginning.
I advise you not to waste your time on me, there are so many young and beautiful girls out there!” Angelia said coldly.
“In your eyes, am I that unbearable? Aren’t you kind? You wouldn’t want me to harm those young girls, you could just accept me,” Neville said, pressing his chest.
He looked like he was in pain and deeply in love.
“Sorry, this is not a trash can, and I’m not a god who can stop you. Even if you are with me, you can still harm those young girls. As I said, what goes around comes around. There will be retribution,” Angelia said, frowning, remembering the purpose of being here.
Unconsciously, their relationship had become so strained.
“Who is responsible for harming Jerome?” Angelia returned to the topic.
Neville looked at her coldly, “You came to me for another man, and it hurts me a lot.”
Angelia became more annoyed, “Don’t pretend in front of me, if you want to play games, go to Lillian. She’s malicious, just like you, you two are a good match.”
“You’re asking me with that attitude?” Neville raised his voice.
Angelia fell silent.
Neville softened his voice, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Angelia looked up at him, “Did you participate in harming Jerome? Otherwise, how could you know about such a big thing?”
Neville smiled, “I have money, but compared to Jerome, it’s nothing. His height is beyond my reach, and I don’t have the ability to harm him.”
“Then how do you know about this?” Angelia was suspicious.”I heard about it while I was on a business trip in Wilmington. A friend told me that Jerome had offended someone who was just as wealthy as him. At that time, I hadn’t found you yet and as a regular businessman, I didn’t want to get involved in this mess. I have no grudges against him,” Neville explained.
“Who is this person?” Angelia asked.
“If I tell you, that person won’t spare me. Are you willing to risk my life for Jerome?” Neville replied.
“If it was your friend who told you, then this person can’t possibly know you. Besides, they’re not in North Carolina. How could they know it was you who said it?” Angelia pointed out.
Neville smiled, “You’re still as smart as ever. If you promise to stay with me, I’ll tell you and even help him.”
Angelia didn’t believe Neville’s offer of help. Based on his character, she knew he would continue to go after Jerome even after getting what he wanted.
The person he mentioned might not even be real.
Angelia smiled and looked at Neville, “Jerome, my boss. I admire and appreciate him. Because of him, I have to be with you. I’m not stupid. Goodbye.”
Angelia put away her smile and continued towards the door.
Neville tried to rush towards her, but Angelia sensed danger and quickly pulled out her self-defense electric baton.
Neville was shocked and paralyzed, and his legs gave out, causing him to crouch down.
Angelia immediately ran towards the door, but Neville pushed her from behind before she could open it.
She quickly took out her electric baton.
Neville grabbed her hand and pushed her against the door.
“Is this how you want to play, Neville? Let me go,” Angelia struggled to say.”I won’t let go. If it weren’t for my love for you, would I bother getting entangled with a married woman like you? I can have as many women as I want, even those who are still untouched, but for you, I am willing to die. Don’t you understand my feelings?” Neville firmly pressed her down and said.
She had already seen through his character.
What he called love now was just because he couldn’t have her. Once he got her, he would definitely find other women outside when she turned thirty.
She would never make the same mistake twice.
But the more she resisted, the more Neville wouldn’t let her go. In a way, Neville was even more dangerous than Gallagher.
“You’re hurting me,” Angelia said, glaring at him.
Neville immediately softened his attitude. “I’m sorry, Angelia. I didn’t mean to. I’m afraid I won’t be able to find you again if you leave, just like five years ago.”
“Let me go first,” Angelia suppressed her temper.
Neville didn’t let go of her, but took a step back, holding her wrist and embracing her, looking at her profile. “I can’t let go. You don’t know how fast you can run. It takes five years for you to run away, and I don’t have many five years to wait for you.”
Angelia really wanted to say something to him.
Wait for what? Five years with Lillian?
But if she said that, Neville wouldn’t let her go. She took a deep breath and looked coldly at the door. “Do you want to hold me like this forever?”
“Give yourself to me, okay? I want you,” Neville said hoarsely, kissing her ear.
Angelia shuddered and felt sick in her stomach.
She was afraid that he would use force, but with a cunning flash in her eyes, she said, “Okay.”
Neville was surprised and moved her body. “Are you serious?”
“Beep.” Angelia took the opportunity to shock Neville with the highest voltage. He was electrocuted and numb, falling to the ground.
Anglia immediately rushed out of the room and ran to the elevator, followed by Neville.
The elevator bell rang and the people inside came out, including Anglia’s father who, upon seeing Anglia, grabbed her wrist in shock and angrily accused her of trying to seduce Neville and called her cheap.
Anglia, seeing Neville quickly catching up, didn’t bother explaining and used the electric shock on her father.
Her father’s hand went numb and he let go of Anglia.
She immediately got into the elevator and quickly pressed the close button.
‘Stop her!’ Neville shouted.
Anglia’s father, still not fully comprehending, pressed the open button instead.
Anglia saw the elevator close and then open again, glaring at her father.
She didn’t have time to be angry and quickly ran towards the emergency exit.
However, she was stopped by her father who grabbed her arm and asked what she was doing.
‘Let go of me!’ Anglia yelled.
Neville caught up and took away Anglia’s electric baton, throwing it in the trash.
Anglia, realizing she couldn’t run away, shouted for help and to call the police.
Neville picked her up and carried her back to her hospital room while Anglia struggled and pleaded with the nurses for help.
Anglia’s father frowned and told the nurses in a stern voice that she was his daughter and that there was no need to call the police.
The nurses looked at each other in confusion.
Anglia, seeing that they weren’t going to call the police, felt hopeless and bit Neville’s neck hard in desperation.
Neville cried out in pain and threw her onto the bed. With a loud bang, Angelia’s back hit the bed hard, causing her whole body to tingle with pain as she rolled off the bed.
She had to run, she couldn’t just sit and wait for death.
Neville looked at Angelia coldly, “Uncle, please guard the door outside. I will marry Angelia, and on the day of the wedding, I will give you all the money you want.”
Angelia’s father looked at her in surprise.
Angelia was frightened, shaking her head and turning pale.
The only one who could save her now was her father. “Dad, I don’t want to, I don’t like Neville, I didn’t seduce Neville, please save me. I promise I won’t appear in front of Neville again. She belongs to Lillian, Dad.” Angelia pleaded. Her father frowned, his eyes cold, looking at Neville, “I want twenty million.” Angelia was stunned, realizing that he was buying her.
She felt the blood in her body freeze, as if injected with coldness, surging towards her heart.
Five years ago, Angelia’s father falsely accused her and forced her to apologize in order to make Lillian marry Neville.
Now, for money, he was pushing her towards a beast. In her father’s eyes, there was no love at all. She never thought that while she was being raped inside the house, her father, his own father, could stand guard outside.
Gradually, her thoughts became rational from panic. Neville looked at Angelia and said, “No problem.”
Angelia’s father left the hospital room and closed the door.
Neville rushed towards Angelia and pressed her on the bed.
Angelia did not struggle or resist, just calmly looked at Neville and said, “I think you’re stupid.” “What?”Angelia sneered, “You forced me in here just now, the surveillance camera in the elevator recorded it, the nurse saw it, the patient saw it, the patient’s family saw it, and the hospital surveillance also recorded it. If you rape me, I guarantee that I will report you and you will go to jail. You should know my personality, I don’t care about money.”
“I love you, I did this because I love you, will you still report me? You didn’t even report that rapist back then.” Neville became uneasy, but he didn’t act rashly.
He knew Angelia’s personality. When she was wrongly accused and treated unfairly years ago, she disappeared completely, leaving nothing behind.
“I haven’t even seen the rapist’s face, how can I report him? Will I report Lillian for drugging me? Will you help me prove it? Ha.” Angelia sarcastically laughed.
He wouldn’t help her prove it, otherwise he wouldn’t have conspired with Lillian to frame her.
“You should take better care of yourself. You’re not young anymore. If you commit rape, I will definitely report you and Jerome has some connections. He won’t let you escape.” Angelia said coldly.
“He can’t even protect himself, do you think he can protect you?” Neville said viciously.
“Even without his help, I can still ruin your reputation and send you to jail.” Angelia said more confidently.
The two of them were at a stalemate.
“How did you get here?” Angelia’s father’s voice rang out.
“Move aside.” Jerome said sternly.
Angelia heard Jerome’s voice and looked towards the door in surprise.
Neville looked at the shining light in Angelia’s eyes and became even more angry. He lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.Angelia dodged defensively and pushed his forehead.
With a bang, Jerome kicked the door open.
He walked in with a cold face, covered in a chilling aura like an icicle, and swept it towards the bed.
Angelia looked at him for help and was about to speak when Neville said, “You’re suddenly barging in like this will make me impotent. This is between Angelia and me. Please leave.”
Jerome sneered.
Angelia was afraid that Jerome would turn around and leave without giving her any explanation, “It’s not what you think.”
“What is it then? Didn’t you promise to be with me?” Angelia slapped Neville, but he grabbed her wrist before it could touch his face.
“Don’t be so despicable,” Angelia said angrily.
“Can you swear on your child’s life that you didn’t promise me just now?” Neville forced her.
She promised because she wanted him to let his guard down so she could escape.
“That’s because…”
“You don’t have to explain to him,” Jerome said coldly, pulling Neville away and pushing him against the wall with one hand.
Angelia immediately got up and hid behind Jerome.
“No matter what she did to you before or said to you, she doesn’t want to be with you now, and that’s the end of it,” Jerome said coldly.
“Do you think she’ll be with you?” Neville sneered.
Jerome threw him onto the bed and exerted his strength, “Whether she’s with me or not, it’s none of your business.”
He grabbed Angelia’s hand, which was much bigger than hers, and walked out of the ward.
Angelia looked at his face worriedly.
He had a tough and strong demeanor.”Um, can I explain?” Angelia said cautiously, feeling that he might misunderstand.
“I believe you,” Jerome said in a deep voice.
With just one sentence, “I believe you,” he surrounded her heart.
Five years ago, she left after being mistreated by everyone’s lack of trust.
Five years later, without any explanation, he gave her enough trust and respect, and even the strongest walls completely crumbled at the moment he said “I believe you.”
“Neville said he knows who framed you. He mentioned Wilmington, and I remembered that you said this matter hasn’t been made public yet, so how could he know? I came to ask him who framed you,” Angelia explained.
Jerome stopped in his tracks and looked at her. “Are you worried about me?”
Angelia nodded without denying it. “I’m worried about you, afraid that something might happen to you. Those people even used drugs to harm you, which may be related to the underworld. If we can find out who did it, we can at least be prepared.”
Jerome said coldly, “Even if he doesn’t say anything, I already know who did it. He’s not my opponent, don’t worry, even if there’s danger, I won’t take you with me.”
For some reason, when Angelia heard Jerome say this, her heart really calmed down and she smiled.
Just as he trusted her, she also completely trusted him.
“Why are you laughing? Do you know how dangerous it was just now?” Jerome frowned, thinking that if he had come a step later, she would have been…
“There won’t be any danger,” Angelia shook her head. “Neville wouldn’t dare touch me. When he took me in, many people saw it. If he touched me, he would definitely go to jail. He values himself too much.”
“So, I was meddling?”Of course not, you were so cool just now, you pinned him against the wall with just one hand, like a superhero from Jackson, it was amazing,” Angelia praised with a smile.
Jerome couldn’t help but feel happy.
The elevator bell rang and Angelia went in first.
Jerome thought of a question, “You… didn’t report that man five years ago.” Jerome looked at her intently, with many thoughts colliding in his mind, waiting for her answer.
“At that time, I was drugged and didn’t remember what he looked like,” Angelia explained.
“If you remembered, would you report him?” Jerome asked.
“Yes,” Angelia answered without hesitation.
At that time, she didn’t have Alyssa yet. If she remembered what he looked like, she would definitely report him. However, there was no surveillance in the hotel and no one could prove that she was raped, so she couldn’t report it.
If she remembered correctly, the man should be Lillian’s accomplice, and Lillian should know who he is.
First of all, Lillian wouldn’t speak, and even if she did, after so many years, the only evidence would be Alyssa. She didn’t want Alyssa to be hurt like that. Unless the person confessed on their own, she couldn’t do anything.
Life is so helpless, some things are not that she doesn’t want to, but that she can’t.
Jerome didn’t speak, his eyes sank, staring at the air.
For some reason, the atmosphere suddenly became heavy.
Other people also got on the elevator, squeezing Angelia and Jerome, who were originally standing together, to the two sides of the elevator.
Jerome looked at Angelia, who was already standing in the corner, with people still pushing him from the front. He frowned and squeezed over to her side, turned around, and protected her between his arm and the wall, leaving enough space for her.
Angelia looked at Jerome. He also looked at her.No one spoke, but it was as if they had said a lot.
It was unclear who was behind them, but suddenly there was a collision.
He wasn’t prepared and ended up pushing towards Angelia, but quickly supported himself and didn’t push her. They were just closer to each other.
She could hear her own heartbeat, as if it was right next to her ear.
“Are you okay?” Jerome asked with concern.
Angelia shook her head, too shy and didn’t want to be seen, so she lowered her eyes and even her breathing felt thin.
Finally, there was a ding and they arrived on the first floor. She looked towards the door, “We’re here.”
“Hmm,” Jerome responded in a deep voice.
The feeling of her being obedient in his arms was good, as if they were a couple.
He complained that the elevator arrived too quickly.
After everyone had left, he turned around and took her hand, walking towards the parking lot.
“By the way, Jerome, how do you always manage to find me?” Angelia asked curiously.
Last time he couldn’t find her, so he had a friend locate her phone signal. Nowadays, there are various apps on phones that have location functions.
“As long as you don’t turn off your phone, I can locate you through your phone,” Jerome explained.
He opened the passenger door.
“Oh, no wonder. I actually think phones aren’t very safe. A lot of people’s information is leaked through their phones. Will your phone signal be tracked by someone too? If so, someone will know when we go to Wilmington,” Angelia worriedly said as she got into the passenger seat.
Jerome sat in the driver’s seat and said, “My phone has a security system installed and the signals are virtual. Unless I want to, no one can track my information. Also, this time going to Wilmington, I had someone block my information.”
Listening to it sounds complicated, but Jerome is meticulous and has arranged everything well.
She looked at the time in the car, it was already 10:30, “We leave at twelve noon, right?”
“Okay.” Jerome replied. “If there’s not enough time to make something elaborate, let’s keep it simple. You can go back and take a shower first.”
“Huh?” Angelia looked at Jerome.
There was something strange in his eyes, and he said in a low voice, “The hospital is very dirty.”
Angelia felt uncomfortable in her heart.
Did he think she was dirty too?
During the journey, Angelia did not speak again, looking out of the window.
Soon, they arrived at the apartment.
Angelia went back to her room to take a shower.
Jerome went back to his own room to pack his luggage.
He saw his clothes hanging on the balcony, next to Angelia’s clothes, fluttering in the wind, cuddling together, facing the sun, giving him a warm feeling.
He couldn’t help but feel happy. If they could live like this every day in the future, it would be great.
Angelia’s mood wasn’t as good.
Jerome even despised her for going to the hospital, let alone the fact that she was a married woman. She didn’t know if she could come back in time!
She came out of the bathroom and changed her clothes.
The dirty clothes couldn’t be washed in time, so she went to the kitchen to cook.
She fried the chicken wings that she had marinated in the morning, and a strong aroma filled the kitchen.
Jerome walked towards the kitchen and took off his suit jacket, “Do you need my help?”
Angelia shook her head and looked at him, “Have you finished your work?”
“I can do it on the plane.”
Angelia turned down the heat, turned around, faced him, and said seriously, “I can handle the kitchen. If you can’t sleep, use the time to work. You only slept for two hours, and your heart can’t take it. You can rest well on the plane.”Jerome looked at her and asked, “Are you trying to teach me a lesson?”
Angelia replied, “Oh no, I just think that you should use your time wisely and in the right place, or else you’ll just end up exhausting yourself.” There was a deeper meaning behind her words.
Jerome responded, “Only God knows how to use time wisely, not humans.” He didn’t say anything else and turned around to go to his study.
Angelia could tell that Jerome was angry, but she didn’t regret what she said. Previously, because he had agreed to see Alyssa, some bad things had happened, and he ended up working all night and only sleeping for two hours. If he hadn’t agreed to see Alyssa in the first place, he would have been able to finish his work in the afternoon. She didn’t think she was wrong to say those things.
She continued to fry chicken wings, steak, carrots, and green peppers, washed cherries, and even squeezed the remaining watermelon into juice. After finishing everything, she felt better and went to the study to call Jerome for dinner, knocking on the door. But there was no answer.
She knocked again and called out, “Jerome, it’s time for dinner.” Still, there was no answer.
She started to worry that Jerome might have fainted, so she was about to push open the door when it suddenly opened. Jerome stood at the door, looking down at her coldly, and said in a low voice, “I’m video chatting with my aunt, and she wants to see you.”
Angelia was confused as to why Jerome’s aunt wanted to see her. Jerome explained, “She heard your voice and was curious about who I was living with.”
Angelia didn’t think it was appropriate to meet Jerome’s relatives, but not meeting them made her seem suspicious. She cautiously walked over to Jerome’s computer and saw the woman on the other side of the camera.Jerome’s aunt is very beautiful, with delicate features and long straight hair.
She is thin and when she smiles, her eyes curve like a crescent moon, just like Jerome’s sister.
“Hello, I’m Jerome’s aunt, Viola. My English name is Smile, and Jerome usually calls me the Queen of Smiles. You can call me Smile too, I like that name,” she said.
Angelia listened to her voice, which was gentle and soothing, like water flowing, and it felt very comfortable.
“Hello,” Angelia said politely, sitting in a chair.
“I’m Angelia, Jerome’s assistant.”
“Hehehe, you’re even more beautiful than I imagined. By the way, it’s Monday today, it’s past 11 o’clock where you are, aren’t you supposed to be at work? Or are you like Whitfield, Guy’s personal assistant?” Viola asked curiously.
Angelia hesitated and looked at Jerome. She didn’t know if she should tell Jerome’s aunt about their trip to Wilmington.
Jerome leaned in closer to Angelia, one hand on the back of her chair and the other holding a mouse, and said in a strange tone, “I can’t always put the right people in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.”
Angelia: “…” She felt like Jerome was talking to her.
“Oh,” Viola replied in agreement, still smiling, and asked Angelia, “Guy said you were his college classmate. Do you like our Guy?”
“Huh?” Angelia hesitated.
Jerome became impatient, “Have you seen enough now? It’s already past 4 o’clock where you are, you should go to bed, or you’ll get old if you don’t sleep.”Viola continued speaking softly, “They haven’t heard enough from me yet, you can’t be in such a hurry. As you all say, ‘A friend from afar brings happiness,’ and I am a friend from afar. How come I haven’t seen you yet? That’s really impolite.” She stretched her neck, looking for Angelia.
“This phrase isn’t applicable here, so don’t show off. I’m going to eat now, bye,” Jerome interrupted.
“I haven’t finished yet. Let me talk to her, just two sentences. Two. Can I? I promise not to talk about your embarrassing childhood stories,” Viola made a scissor gesture and coquettishly said.
Jerome thought for a moment, then turned the computer towards Angelia.
Angelia was confused and didn’t understand what Jerome’s aunt wanted to say.
“I’ll tell you, when Jerome was a child…” Viola hadn’t finished yet, but Jerome directly ended the video call.
Angelia felt a bit awkward, “Um, your aunt is quite lovely.”
“She grew up in France and has a quirky personality, but besides my grandfather, I’ve spent the most time with her. She’s a vice president in the company and has helped me a lot,” Jerome explained.
Angelia nodded and could tell that he had a good relationship with his aunt. Their level of intimacy in conversation was different from that with others.
The video call invitation came again, and Jerome frowned before accepting it.
Viola rubbed her hands and apologized, “Sorry, sorry, I was just making a little joke.”
She also made a small gesture while smiling.
“You’ve already said three sentences,” Jerome reminded her.
“No, no, that was for you. I haven’t said it to her yet,” Viola looked at Angelia, “It’s my birthday next month, can you come with Jerome?”
“Uh?”She is Jerome’s assistant and attended his aunt’s birthday party, which was not very appropriate.
Moreover, Jerome’s aunt belongs to the upper class society, and she feels awkward just thinking about entering that circle as an ugly duckling with nothing.
“I…” Angelia was about to refuse, but then Jerome hung up the video call.
“Are you not afraid of making your aunt angry by doing this?” Angelia curiously asked.
“She’s used to it,” Jerome replied in a deep voice.
Angelia nodded, worriedly glancing at the computer.
As expected, Jerome’s aunt was used to it and did not call back after being hung up on.
At half past twelve, Sloan arrived on time to pick them up.
He noticed that Angelia and Jerome lived together and shrugged it off since Jerome liked it.
In the car, Sloan said, “Jerome, my uncle just called me and said that the attacker has been caught. He was a fan of Lillian’s and although he intended to stab Angelia, Neville was the one who was injured and has the right to press charges. We still haven’t received a response from Neville’s side.”
Jerome frowned, “Can’t Angelia press charges?”
“It didn’t constitute a crime against Angelia, and from the video, it wasn’t clear that he intended to stab her,” Sloan explained.
Jerome understood and said, “Find someone to closely monitor this situation. I don’t want that person to become a danger or a bomb.”
“Okay, I’ve already told my uncle. By the way, where are you and Angelia going? Back to France?” Sloan asked curiously.
“There are some things to take care of first. Don’t mention my affairs to anyone else, and do what you need to do as soon as possible,” Jerome instructed.”Don’t worry, I’ve been working overtime to get it done. These days, I will also be meeting with the heads of various channels with Mr. Harris. When you come back, I will give you a detailed report.”
Sloan said, looking at Angelia in the rearview mirror.
Angelia looked at the scenery outside, very calm.
The Mr. Harris that Sloan mentioned should be Waldron Harris that Jerome mentioned earlier. If she knew, Jerome would tell her. If she didn’t need to know, she didn’t have to ask.
“There’s something…” Sloan hesitated.
“Speak,” Jerome said simply.
“Well, today, Bea came to the company. She said you asked her to come work here. Our channel operations were short of staff, and she was good at socializing, so I temporarily let her do operations and accompany me in the channels. Is that okay?” Sloan didn’t say anything, and Jerome had forgotten about it.
“Angelia is in charge of personnel,” Jerome said, looking at Angelia. She can stay if she wants to stay, and if she doesn’t want to stay, he will give her the decision-making power.
Sloan’s face looked a little strange. “Angelia, you won’t blame me for making decisions privately, will you?”
“No, Bea is an actress herself, and her dream is to become famous. If you can persuade her to do operations steadily, it’s also good.” Angelia said with a pun. She didn’t think Bea would want to do operations. She came to the company for Jerome. But Sloan arranged it like this, and she couldn’t refute him.
Sloan smiled and drove for over fifty minutes, arriving at the airport. Angelia had never been on a plane before, and followed behind Jerome into the VIP reception room.
“Give me your ID and passport,” Jerome said.
Angelia’s passport was issued two years ago when the company said they were going on a trip abroad and collectively applied for it. However, she had some things to deal with at the time and didn’t go on the trip. She handed her ID and passport to Jerome.Jerome handed the flight attendant in VIP service his ticket, and soon the flight attendant brought their tickets and invited them to the lounge.
The lounge had a sofa, coffee table, snacks and fruits on the coffee table, and bookshelves filled with books around.
There was also a beautiful flight attendant dedicated to serving in the lounge.
“May I ask what beverage you need?” The flight attendant smiled and asked, bending her body slightly and pointing her finger at the menu.
“Blue Mountain coffee,” Jerome said in a low voice.
“Don’t drink coffee, rest on the plane,” Angelia blurted out, genuinely worried about his health.
He had only slept for two hours before and was he really planning on not sleeping on the plane?
“A glass of plain water,” Jerome said.
The flight attendant smiled at Angelia and asked, “What do you need?”
“A glass of yogurt, please,” Angelia said politely.
The flight attendant turned around to prepare.
Angelia looked at the delicious snacks on the coffee table, turned her body towards Jerome, and asked in a low voice, “Can I eat the snacks on the table?”
“Hmm. If you’re hungry, you can order any of the meals on the menu,” Jerome said.
Angelia looked at the pictures of steak, seafood, sushi, ice cream, and more on the menu. She regretted it.
If she had known there was food here, why did she bother cooking? She could have just slept instead.
“Are they all free?” Angelia asked, still not giving up.
If they weren’t free, she could have felt a little better. Airport food was usually expensive, and cooking was worth it.
“Hmm,” Jerome replied again.
Angelia: “…”
She hung her head and sat back in her seat, feeling even worse for asking.
Jerome looked at her frustrated and pitiful expression, and found her particularly cute, so he chuckled lightly.
“Why are you laughing? Why didn’t you tell me?” Angelia said, annoyed.”I said it, you can order it.” Jerome remembered himself saying,
“You said you can order it on the plane, but you didn’t say you can order it anytime.” Angelia corrected him.
“Oh, you didn’t ask.” Jerome replied.
Okay, she didn’t ask, how would she know there was such a thing.
“Can we board early later?” Jerome asked her.
“Board early?”
“After the plane arrives, first-class passengers can board first.” Jerome said.
Angelia nodded, smiled and whispered, “Okay, this way we won’t run into anyone we know, right?”
“In theory, yes.”
They waited for a while, and then a flight attendant pushed a cart over and escorted them onto the plane.
Angelia was both nervous and excited.
It was her first time flying.
As they walked through the aisle, she leaned against the window and saw many planes parked outside, white, like giant birds.
Jerome looked at her and thought of Alyssa, who was probably also leaning against the window like her.
Angelia realized she was being a bit embarrassing.
She followed the flight attendant to the cabin door, where they were greeted by the aircraft commander and the deputy aircraft commander, in addition to the flight attendant.
One of the young men was quite handsome, a bit like a combination of Talbot and Sloan, tall and strong, wearing a white uniform, smiling, giving a particularly sunny feeling.
Angelia looked at him a few more times, and the aircraft commander smiled even more at her, his smile becoming more and more radiant.
Jerome noticed their interaction and his face turned pale, “Do you think I’m dead?”
“Hmm?” Angelia didn’t hear clearly and looked at Jerome. He gave her a cold glance, with an underlying anger, and followed the flight attendant to the first-class section, taking a seat on the outer side.
Angelia didn’t know why Jerome was suddenly angry again.
She looked at her boarding pass, which showed seat number 2, which should be next to Jerome.
She was about to sit down when Jerome flipped his reclining seat down, shortening the distance between them.
Angelia looked at Jerome in confusion.
He closed his eyes, looking like he didn’t want to deal with her.
Just then, a handsome man came over and asked gently, “Do you need help?”
Jerome heard the man’s voice, opened his eyes, and looked at him with a frown, unhappily saying, “Are you free?”
The aircraft commander hesitated for a moment, sensing the other’s anger, and smiled at Angelia, saying, “If you need help, you can call me anytime.”
“Oh,” Angelia nodded.
Jerome’s face became even worse, “Can you please put our luggage in?”
“Of course,” the aircraft commander said, opening the door and putting their luggage in one by one.
When he finished, he looked at Angelia and asked, “It might be a little cold on the plane later, do you need a blanket?”
Angelia nodded and thought of Jerome, “Two, please?”
“Sure,” the aircraft commander went to get the blankets.
Angelia went inside and sat down in her seat, looking around.
The seats on this plane were really good, as if they were designed specifically for the human body, spacious enough for someone as tall as Jerome to comfortably lie down.
Jerome looked at her as if she didn’t care about his anger at all.
Did she not know he was angry?
“You’re pretty good at seducing men,” Jerome said.Angelia looked at Jerome and realized what he was saying, “You said I seduced the aircraft commander just now?”
“Isn’t it true? Didn’t you smile at him so beautifully?” Jerome asked coldly.
Did she smile? She didn’t even notice it herself.
She didn’t want to deal with Jerome anymore.
She curiously explored the chair and put it down, lying on it.
She discovered that there was a massage function and clicked it out of curiosity.
Suddenly, a TV came down from the top.
Angelia sat up in surprise. There were many programs on the TV, variety shows, movies, TV dramas, documentaries, and music.
She randomly clicked on one.
The handsome man sent a blanket over and smiled at Angelia, “Do you need headphones?”
Angelia nodded.
The handsome man smiled again, “Wait a minute.”
He went to get the headphones.
“Are you interested in that female passenger, aircraft commander?” A flight attendant complained.
“They are all guests and should be taken care of. It’s my job,” the aircraft commander replied.
“The gentleman sitting next to her is probably jealous. Be careful of complaints,” the flight attendant warned.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” the aircraft commander looked at Angelia, “Don’t you think she’s cute? It’s probably her first time flying.”
“Aircraft commander, we’ll cry if you keep doing this,” the flight attendants complained.
The aircraft commander smiled, revealing his bright, porcelain-like teeth.
He handed the headphones over.
Jerome looked uncomfortable when he came over and looked at the name tag on his chest, Callie, aircraft commander.
All the aircraft commanders were so handsome, who would dare to bring their wives on a plane?
“Your headphones,” Callie said gently to Angelia.
“Thank you,” Angelia took them, not knowing where to plug them in, searching for it.
“It’s under the TV,” Callie reminded.
“Oh,” Angelia searched for it underneath.Jerome took the headphones from Angelia’s hand and scolded her, “Are you stupid or just dumb?”
He helped Angelia plug them in and forcefully stuffed them into her ears, but he put them in the wrong way.
Angelia frowned, fixed them, and focused her attention on the TV.
Jerome looked at Callie unhappily and said, “She doesn’t need service anymore, you can leave.”
Callie politely looked up, smiled at Angelia, and walked towards the cabin door to receive other passengers.
Angelia chose to watch Spiderman, but she had only seen the first one when she was a child and had not seen the rest.
She was focused on the TV.
Jerome looked at Angelia and was angry, but she didn’t know or didn’t care, which made him even angrier.
He closed the curtain, but Angelia was curious and asked, “There are curtains here?”
Jerome ignored her and closed his eyes.
She remembered that there were two blankets, so she tore open the sealed bag, took out one, and draped it over him.
Even though Jerome was very angry, his anger dissipated somewhat because of her actions.
He opened his eyes and looked at her.
Did they really not look like a couple?
Was he just a decoration while others were already thinking about Angelia?
Angelia looked at him with his cold and silent stare, and his eyes were so mesmerizing.
“I’m watching TV,” she said, and looked away, focusing on the TV.
After about half an hour, the TV automatically played the safety instructions.
Angelia followed the instructions and put on her seatbelt.
When the flight attendant came to check, Callie also came and specially checked Angelia’s seatbelt to make sure there were no problems.Angelia looked at him, their eyes meeting, and Callie smiled brightly.
Jerome really wanted to throw him out the window.
Angelia remembered what Jerome had said, not to smile, and deliberately looked away with a plain expression.
“The plane is about to take off, we should also put away the table,” Callie said.
“Oh,” Angelia put the table away.
Callie still didn’t leave.
Jerome was unhappy, “Is there anything else?”
Callie also knew he had been standing for too long, politely looked up and left.
Angelia felt the plane moving and looked out the window.
It felt like riding on a bus.
She was quite curious about how the plane flew into the sky, staring out the window.
The plane turned a corner, paused for a moment, and suddenly, the speed increased, faster than a bullet train, and it took off with a whoosh.
She could clearly feel the plane flying up, not knowing whether she was nervous, excited, or a little scared.
Unconsciously, she held Jerome’s hand on the armrest.
Jerome saw that she was really nervous, her back was stiff, and he held her hand back…
Ten minutes later, Angelia felt uncomfortable.
There seemed to be something drilling in her ears, it hurt, and she couldn’t hear anything clearly.
She let go of Jerome’s hand and covered her ears.
Her ears still hurt.
She rubbed them, but they still hurt, and they were getting worse.
She looked at Jerome puzzled, “Jerome, my ears hurt, what should I do? Do people go deaf from flying?”
He looked at her soft and helpless appearance, and felt exceptionally cute, as if a small paw was scratching his heart, making it particularly itchy.
There was a hidden tide in his gaze.Although Angelia has a good figure, she is not the seductive type.
She is very down-to-earth, and men who see her do not just want to play with her, but the longer they get to know her, the more they discover her many virtues.
She is strong, eager to learn, hardworking, virtuous, gentle, and kind.
When she is not angry, even the way she speaks makes people feel cute, and she is the kind of woman that men want to love from the bottom of their hearts.
She may not even know it herself, but she has a very strong appeal to the opposite sex.
Earlier, in the elevator at the hospital, he noticed that many men were looking at her, not just a glance.
Thinking of Callie just now made her even more unhappy.
“Lie down,” Jerome said in a deep voice.
Angelia obeyed and lay down.
“It still hurts,” she said.
He got up, pinched her nose, and covered her lips with his.
At first, Angelia thought he was being frivolous with her.
But then she realized that he was helping her, and this method should be similar to artificial respiration.
However, she still felt uncomfortable, her brain was hot, and she didn’t dare to close her eyes.
She looked at him, then looked away, and looked at the top of the plane.
Gradually, she felt her eardrums being blown up, and with a pop, it was like suddenly being able to breathe again.
Her voice was clear, and her ears no longer hurt.
She pushed his shoulder.
He let go of her and looked at her with a worried expression.
“Is it better now?” Angelia blushed, looking even more beautiful than natural rouge.
She licked her lips and nodded.
Jerome withdrew his comment that she was not seductive, and his gaze became warmer, with an impulse to kiss her.
Angelia raised her hand and the flight attendant walked over.
