Chapter 13
by admin“I don’t allow it anyway,” Angelia demanded forcefully.
“Why?” Sammie’s face darkened, and she felt a sense of discomfort flash through her heart. “Have you fallen in love with him?”
“He is my future boss. You provoked him, making me unable to bear it,” Angelia replied.
Sammie turned around and pressed Angelia against the wall, looking down at her angry and bright eyes. “Why don’t we have a threesome in the future? I don’t mind.”
Angelia was so angry that she slapped Sammie in the face.
Before he even had a chance to touch her, Sammie grabbed her wrist and pressed her against the wall above her head.
He raised a casual smile and caught a glimpse of Jerome walking into the men’s restroom…
Originally, he wanted to tease Angelia, but seeing her angry and helpless look, he felt satisfied, fulfilling some kind of perverse fantasy.
However, Jerome came in.
He could feel his breath tighten, naturally letting go of Angelia’s hand, and his gaze fell on Jerome without hiding his possessiveness as a hunter.
Jerome was very calm and expressionless when he came in, as if he hadn’t seen them. He turned on the faucet and washed his hands coldly, without any temperature.
Angelia’s heart was beating so fast that it seemed to jump out of her throat. Their posture was too ambiguous, and their relationship was too complicated.
She was more nervous, flustered, and even had a brief blank in her mind. She didn’t know what she should do or say?
And because Sammie had taken a liking to him, she was sorry and worried, feeling embarrassed and hoping that Jerome wouldn’t notice them.
Jerome saw that they didn’t want to separate and finished washing his hands. He turned to face Angelia and said, “Walden is calling for you.”
“Uh,” Angelia replied, walking to the door with her head down. She thought of something and turned to look at Sammie, warning him and wiping her neck.Sammie looked straight at Angelia with confidence.
Jerome had previously confessed his feelings to Sammie, but Sammie was more infatuated with Jerome.
From then on, it was a mutual attraction between them.
Sammie didn’t care about Angelia’s warning.
He was determined to get the man he wanted and his eyes showed provocation and determination.
Jerome looked at Sammie and suppressed his anger, turning away coldly.
“Sammie, right?” he called out.
Jerome stopped in his tracks, stood straight, and looked at Sammie from the corner of his eye.
In that moment, Sammie was captivated by Jerome’s profile.
Sammie smiled and took out a gold-plated, perfumed business card from his wallet and handed it to Jerome.
“This has my phone number and contact information.
If you have time, you can come to my company and see if there’s anything we can collaborate on.”
Jerome didn’t even glance at his card, moved his gaze away, and arrogantly walked out the door.
Sammie didn’t expect to be rejected so directly.
Didn’t Jerome confess his feelings for him before?
Was his current attitude towards him intentional?
On the way back to the banquet hall, Angelia was restless.
What if Sammie suddenly hugged Jerome?
That kind of shameless person was capable of anything, he even managed to seduce a male model!
What if he seduced Jerome?
She couldn’t imagine it and became more and more worried.
She turned around and saw that Jerome was following her, but Sammie wasn’t.
She breathed a sigh of relief and decided not to bother with Sammie since he and Jerome had separated.
She turned around again and went back to the banquet hall.
Jerome said he was focusing on the main point.
Did she still want to continue being disturbed by that man?
She saw him and turned away again.
Although she appeared calm on the surface, she was more frightened.Angelia entered the banquet hall and found Walden, respectfully calling out, “Wettiner, do you need me for something?”
Walden looked confused and was about to speak when Jerome said, “I want to go back now. I had some drinks, can someone drive me home?”
“Oh,” Walden understood. “Angelia, you can drive Mr. Taylor home.”
Angelia nodded, feeling a bit strange. Did Walden really call her just to drive Jerome home?
She walked ahead, entered the elevator, and Jerome stood behind her, looking at her with cold and cool eyes.
She saw Jerome’s gaze in the elevator mirror and felt nervous.
She took her bag from the locker room and followed him to the parking lot.
Jerome stood in front of the car, not moving.
“Mr. Taylor, your keys,” Angelia respectfully asked.
“You?” She really wanted to make it clear that she and him had nothing.
Jerome sneered sarcastically, “They’re in my pocket. Come and get them yourself.”
“Uh,” Angelia walked towards him. He was too tall, and her head only reached his chin.
She didn’t dare to look at him and lowered her head, feeling his hot body temperature.
She was nervous and couldn’t find the keys, and accidentally touched something…
Her face turned red, as if she had been electrocuted.
She withdrew her hand, looked up at him awkwardly, her eyes flashing as if they were about to shed tears.
She accidentally touched him, and it felt like death was calling.
Jerome still looked expressionless, looking down at her without any ripples in his eyes, as if she had not touched the wrong thing just now.
Angelia couldn’t see what he was thinking and said softly, “No keys.”He looked at her gentle and graceful face, various thoughts rushing through his mind. Suddenly, his emotions exploded and he pushed her against the car door, sharply asking, “So, you did it on purpose just now?”
“No, no, no, I didn’t,” Angelia replied stutteringly.
“Then, do you not know what you touched just now?” Jerome asked coldly.
Angelia was so scared by Jerome’s current demeanor that she couldn’t think straight and blurted out, “I, I, I, no, no, no…it was through the pants, right?”
As soon as she said it, she realized she had misspoken.
But the words were like water spilled out, unable to be taken back.
Jerome’s eyes flickered with two flames as he placed his hand on the left side of her chest, “So, you think it’s okay through the clothes, and that man also touched you like that.”
“No, he didn’t,” Angelia pushed his hand away in embarrassment, “I really didn’t mean to.”
Jerome held her hand and pressed it against her head. That man had touched her like this, and the distance between them was even closer than it was now.
Had she touched that man like this too?
Jerome felt a surge of anger rising in his chest, about to explode. He tightened his grip on her wrist and asked oppressively, “Did you do it on purpose or not? Tell me.”
Angelia was at a loss for words and explained, “I really didn’t mean to. Who knew your pocket would be designed like that? Besides, I know you don’t like me. I’m not your type, and you don’t even like me. If I did that, wouldn’t I just be humiliating myself?”
“Who told you that I…” Jerome abruptly stopped, he remembered, it was him who said that…
He had said he didn’t like her, that she wasn’t his type, and that he didn’t even like her.
His emotions suddenly became rational. He continued speaking, “Who told you that the pockets of my pants couldn’t be designed like this? It’s to prevent the phone from falling out. And also, you’re a married woman, of course I don’t like it. You have a husband and you’re still flirting with other men, I naturally look down on that.”
The way Angelia and Sammie were in the men’s restroom was too ambiguous, and he definitely questioned her character.
She couldn’t explain, nor did she want to say much about her and Sammie’s situation.
Knowing that he didn’t like it, she felt a little down, trying not to think too much, and changed the subject, “Did you not put your keys in your pocket?”
Jerome turned his head, and a fire ignited within him. He was usually good at controlling his emotions, but when facing her, his rationality flew out the window.
He took the keys out of his left pocket and handed them to her. Angelia suddenly realized that she had touched the wrong pocket. She took the keys and unlocked the car.
Jerome opened the back door and sat directly in the back seat. Angelia drove carefully, left the parking lot, and asked Jerome in a soft voice, “Where do you live?”
Jerome’s sharp gaze swept towards Angelia. Angelia lowered her head with flickering eyes. She knew he didn’t like being addressed as “you,” but after what happened before, she wanted to show him respect without any ulterior motives.
Jerome, feeling annoyed, picked up his phone and just wanted to take her away, forgetting that he didn’t have a place to live now. He called Whitfield and asked coldly, “How’s the villa search going?”
“Oh, Jerome, I’m still looking. I’ve made appointments with a few places, but time is too tight. It won’t be done until tomorrow at the earliest.””So you’re telling me you haven’t finished it yet? I don’t want to hear explanations, I just want results. If you can’t handle something as small as this, don’t bother coming to work tomorrow,” Jerome hung up the phone in anger.
Whitfield’s face turned pale. Had Mr. Taylor eaten explosives today? He seemed to be firing cannons at every turn. He immediately sent a message, “100% done today, Jerome can rest assured.”
Jerome threw his phone on the chair and closed his eyes to rest. Angelia wanted to suggest that he stay at Marriott International if he hadn’t found a place to stay, but she was afraid of causing unnecessary misunderstandings. Now that she couldn’t even protect herself, she didn’t say anything and just drove aimlessly.
After a while, Jerome still had his eyes closed and said in a low voice, “Go to the mountaintop, I need some fresh air.”
“But the mountain is a bit far from here,” Angelia kindly reminded him.
“So what?” Jerome opened his eyes, and his mood seemed to get colder, either because he was suppressing it or because he was already in a bad mood. “Um,” Angelia glanced at him in the rearview mirror and quickly looked away.
Jerome was in a bad mood and even a casual remark could make him angry. Angelia was afraid and suggested, “Do you want to listen to some music?”
“Uh, just turn on the CD,” Jerome said in a low voice and closed his eyes again.
The music was the beautiful light music she liked, and the road conditions at night were good. She drove calmly for an hour until they reached the mountaintop. Angelia turned on the high beams and looked at him in the rearview mirror.
Jerome sat upright with his arms crossed, his head slightly lowered, and his breathing even. He seemed to have fallen asleep. Even when he was sleeping, this man sat straight up, while most people would have slouched over while sleeping in a car.
She quietly drove for another half an hour until they arrived at the mountaintop and stopped the car.
Jerome opened his eyes and looked outside.
“We’re here. Do you want to get out of the car?” Angelia asked kindly.Jerome completely ignored her and walked to the railing, overlooking the entire Columbia.
Angelia took out mosquito repellent from her bag and stood beside him, explaining friendly, “Although the air is good here, there are also many mosquitoes. I’ll spray you with it.” Jerome didn’t say anything, which was considered tacit approval.
Angelia sprayed mosquito repellent on him carefully, not missing any spot.
“You’re not going home so late, doesn’t your husband call you?” Jerome asked meaningfully.
“Um, he gives me a lot of freedom,” Angelia said vaguely.
“Isn’t he afraid of too much freedom?” Jerome said sarcastically, pushing away Angelia’s hand, turning around, and overlooking the magnificent scenery below the mountain.
Angelia felt his alienation and didn’t want to provoke him. She sat in the pavilion, sprayed mosquito repellent on herself, and her stomach growled. She didn’t know when Jerome would go back.
Her gaze unconsciously fell on Jerome. What an outstanding person. If she had one-tenth of his intelligence, one-thousandth of his wealth, and one-millionth of his mentality, she wouldn’t live such a miserable life, right?
Jerome turned his head and caught her looking at him. Angelia was caught off guard and awkwardly avoided his gaze. But she thought that since he had already caught her, avoiding him would only make her look guilty.
So she looked at him and walked over with a smile. “Do you like to breathe fresh air on the mountaintop? It’s a special hobby.”
“Are you afraid?” Jerome asked in a deep voice.
“Afraid? Of course not, don’t you have me here?” Angelia joked, trying to follow Jerome’s lead.
Suddenly, Jerome hugged her waist and pulled her to his side, their bodies pressed tightly together. Angelia was scared and frowned, but then she thought that with his identity and status, he could have any woman he wanted and wouldn’t use force on her.
He was just scaring her, retaliating for her accidentally touching him before.
If he really wanted to do something to her, why would he be so angry about her accidentally touching him? Once she realized this, she wasn’t afraid at all and even took the opportunity to look at him up close.
The Harvard Medical School forum once held a vote for the most handsome man, and the first place winner was Jerome.
The comment group at the time gave him the evaluation of having the most handsome face, extraordinary intelligence, courage and sharp vision, truly a male god.
Looking at him now, he really is good-looking, especially his eyes. They are so deep, like a galaxy that can’t be seen to the bottom, and they seem to be a vortex that can suck people’s souls in.
Unknowingly, her heartbeat accelerated and her breathing became irregular. She even felt shy and leaned back when she felt the warmth of his palm on her waist.
Jerome didn’t let go of her, instead he got closer to her and asked in a hoarse voice, “Are you scared?”
Angelia became even more flustered, raised a smile to hide her nervousness and said, “Why would I be? You won’t do anything to me, right?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Jerome lowered his head and kissed Angelia’s lips.
She was shocked, a white light flashed in her mind, and she stood still in a daze.
This kiss from Jerome was not as wild and impatient as the previous ones, as if he was angry enough to burn the world and wanted to burn her.
This kiss was very delicate and soft, as if mixed with the spring rain falling between her breaths, stirring up her heartbeat and creating ripples one after another.
Angelia looked at Jerome, he had his eyes closed, and his long eyelashes occasionally brushed against her face, like feathers, very itchy.
She knew she should push him away, but her hands and feet had no strength, as if she was enchanted and couldn’t move at all.Jerome released her, looking complex and breathing heavily.
He frowned and asked, “Why didn’t you push me away?”
Angelia felt as though he was scolding her and blushed with embarrassment.
She used to be firm and resolute in pushing him away.
She thought she was going crazy and her brain was severely lacking oxygen.
“I thought you were testing me,” Angelia explained.
Jerome held onto her flesh on both sides and struggled internally, warning her, “Don’t play with fire. Once it starts, it’s not something you can put out whenever you want.”
Angelia looked at his angry expression and did not understand the meaning of his words.
Was he warning her not to seduce him?
If she continued to seduce him, would she be done for?
But he was the prince, and he could have any woman he wanted.
It must be her overthinking things.
She hadn’t had a man in so long that her hormones were out of control, and she couldn’t even distinguish who her target was.
“I understand,” Angelia said obediently.
Jerome looked at her gentle appearance, and his anger flared up even more.
“If I tell you not to play with fire, why do you still play with it? Why don’t you listen when I tell you to divorce?”
“Huh?”
“Even if it’s not for anyone else, you should think about yourself. What should be done, what is right, who are your friends, who truly cares about you, who you shouldn’t continue to entangle with. You’re living a messy life and calling it for the sake of your child.
You don’t even know what you should truly give your child!” Jerome said angrily, releasing Angelia.
Angelia was stunned in place, trying to understand what he meant by that last sentence.
Was he still thinking about what she said at the hospital this afternoon?Jerome is quite calculative, but she feels his sincere concern as a classmate, which moves her.
She smiles.
Jerome furrows his brows and asks why she’s smiling.
Angelia softly responds that Mr. Taylor is cold on the outside but warm on the inside, and she is happy to follow a boss like him in the future.
Jerome’s anger dissipates unconsciously.
He tells her to leave and opens the back door to get in.
Angelia drives, and Jerome glances at the fuel gauge, noticing it’s almost empty.
Angelia, still looking innocent, turns on the music and smiles at him through the rearview mirror.
Jerome moves his gaze away and looks out the window, feeling helpless.
He then asks Angelia if she has been cheated before.
She answers that it’s not too bad.
Jerome sneers, thinking that she was deceived by Torres in college, who wrote love letters to her using her sister’s name.
If she weren’t so easy to deceive, her ex-boyfriend of five years wouldn’t have secretly started a relationship with her sister and gotten her pregnant without her knowing.
He worries that she’s too gullible and that she’ll be deceived again in the blink of an eye.
He tells her that the car is out of gas, and Angelia apologizes, saying that she didn’t notice earlier and thought the flickering lights on the dashboard were a speaker effect.
He has nothing to say.
She looks smart and gentle, but in reality, she is simple-minded, gullible, stubborn, and hot-tempered.If described as an animal, it would be a pure white cat with a round head, round body, and round eyes that look very cute, but with sharp claws like steel cones.
“After the warning light came on, how long did you drive?” Jerome asked. “It doesn’t seem like long, maybe just over ten minutes,” Angelia replied.
Jerome calculated that it was barely enough to make it down the mountain. He got out of the car, opened the trunk, and took out a small bucket to refuel.
Angelia was surprised, “Jerome, you’re amazing, you even prepared gasoline.”
Jerome glanced at Angelia. Whether it was business or anything else, he always prepared for the worst and never failed. The only thing he couldn’t calculate or control was her.
He finished filling up the tank, closed the lid, threw the fuel bucket into the trunk, and sat in the passenger seat.
Finally, they refueled 500 meters down the mountain, and Whitfield also sent the address of the villa.
The villa was rented in The Pinnacle, a new house that was renovated last year, and no one had moved in yet. The original owner had immigrated to the United States.
While Jerome was away, Whitfield went to buy new household items.
Angelia drove there and it took her an hour and a half.
Whitfield was tidying up the room, and Angelia realized it was getting late, “Jerome, I’m going back first.”
“Let Whitfield take you, it’s not safe to go home alone,” Jerome said in a deep voice, walking into the house and telling Whitfield, “You take Angelia home first.”
“Okay,” Whitfield immediately put down what he was doing, took the keys from Jerome, and walked out the door, only to find that Angelia was gone.
“Make sure she gets home safely,” Jerome instructed.
“Okay.” Whitfield drove out to find Angelia.
Angelia wanted to take a shortcut to the front gate and passed by the entrance of someone else’s villa, where a nanny car was parked next to her.
Read got out of the car and saw Angelia, her beautiful eyes widened in shock, and she sharply asked, “Are you following me?”
Angelia was also slightly stunned to see Read.Originally, Sammie’s villa was just in front of Jerome’s villa.
If he knew that Jerome lived here…
She had a strong feeling of unease.
Angelia didn’t want to get involved with Read and walked towards the front.
Read stopped her and said, “Don’t you think it’s disgusting to do this? You can’t get his heart even if you get his name. Why do you have to do sneaky things?”
“I don’t want to argue with you, and don’t stop me, move aside,” Angelia replied irritably.
“It’s you who needs to move aside. You know that Sammie loves me. What’s the point of occupying Mrs. Johnson’s name? He’s with me, sleeping with me. You’re just a lifelong widow,” Read said more harshly.
Angelia frowned and was disgusted by Read’s words.
“If you have the ability to let him divorce me, I will definitely thank you,” Angelia said sarcastically.
“What’s the point of pretending to be here? I know all the disgusting things you’ve done. Last time you tracked Sammie and took a photo of me kissing him, threatening him not to divorce me. This time you’re following me again. What else do you want to do to separate me and Sammie?” Read gritted his teeth.
Angelia restrained herself from rolling her eyes and sneered, “I thought only some naive and ignorant girls would be so brain-dead to be deceived by someone’s feelings. I didn’t expect you to be so stupid. Sammie loves you? You’re thinking too much. Now Sammie should have three boyfriends at the same time. You’re just his fresh prey. Also, it’s not that I don’t want to divorce, it’s that he doesn’t want to divorce.”
“Then why did you come to me?” Read yelled.
Angelia remained calm, looking at Read’s angry face with drooping eyes. “I just passed by accidentally. If I really wanted to follow or take pictures, would I stand in front of your house and let you find out? Please install your intelligence into your brain, which serves as a decoration.”
“What did you say? Sammie said that she only loves me and has never been with you!”
Read clenched his fists.
Angelia was too lazy to argue with idiots.
If they could reason, they wouldn’t be called idiots.
She turned around and walked away in another direction.
Read suddenly pushed Angelia’s back with great force, causing her to crash into a flowerbed and hit her knee on the edge.
She felt a sharp pain and glared at Read.
He pointed at Angelia, his face turning red with anger, and warned her not to interfere with his and Sammie’s relationship.
He accused her of lying and causing trouble, and the push was just a warning.
Whitfield’s voice interrupted their argument.
He had been looking for Angelia and came running over.
He had driven out but didn’t see her at the gate, so he came back and heard the commotion.
Read sneered at the sight of Whitfield and accused Angelia of having an accomplice.
Angelia stood up and warned Jerome in a low voice not to mess with her.
She threatened to release a video if he provoked her, and asked him to leave.
Read was disgusted and left the scene, saying that he would tell Sammie about what happened.
Whitfield asked Angelia if she was okay, and she explained that she had hit the flowerbed but was not seriously injured.
He noticed that she was bleeding and offered to help her with some first aid supplies he had bought.
Angelia declined, telling him to go back and take care of his boss. You can’t walk back like this.
I’ll drive you.
This is Mr. Taylor’s order,” Whitfield held Angelia’s arm and forcefully pulled her back.
After the numbness wore off, Angelia felt pain in her knees and palms.
She couldn’t resist Whitfield and was pulled to the door.
Jerome came out of the door and saw Angelia with a sharp look in his eyes.
“Who did this to you?” he asked coldly, as if he was going to defend her.
Angelia was touched and smiled, “It was my own carelessness.”
Jerome criticized her, “What’s the use of being pretty with such big eyes that let out air?”.
He picked up Angelia and put her on the sofa.
He asked for the medicine box and Whitfield immediately went to get it.
When he turned around, he saw Jerome squatting in front of Angelia, which surprised him.
Jerome used cotton to apply disinfectant on Angelia’s knee wound.
It hurt when the disinfectant touched the wound and Angelia instinctively pulled back her foot.
Jerome looked at her and said, “You know it hurts. Be careful next time and don’t forget the pain after the wound heals.”
After cleaning her wound, he applied the anti-inflammatory medicine and bandaged it.
He advised, “Don’t let the wound touch water. It will heal by tomorrow.”
He held her hand and gently wiped the scratches on her palm with cotton.
It was strange that it didn’t hurt anymore and instead felt itchy.
Angelia watched Jerome’s focused expression and felt a mixture of sourness, bitterness, and gratitude in her heart. For so many years, starting from when her mother left, she has been dealing with her injuries alone.
No one has ever helped her like this before, not even Neville…
Jerome finished and looked at her.
Angelia immediately withdrew her gaze, lowered her eyes, and pulled back her hand.
Between the two of them, there seemed to be some inexplicable factor colliding and expanding in the air, and no one knew whose emotions were entangled again.
“Stay here tonight. There are many rooms here, and tomorrow I happen to be going to Detroit for an inspection. Aren’t you going to see your grandmother? I can take you there on the way.” Jerome said very gently, with a hint of tenderness.
Whitfield standing next to him unconsciously lowered his head.
Didn’t his boss tell him he was going to Detroit tomorrow? Is this another last-minute decision by his boss?
Angelia smiled and said, “No need. It’s inconvenient for me to stay here, and I need to change my clothes.”
“Let Whitfield go to the mall and buy it.” Jerome said domineeringly.
“At this time, the mall and supermarket should be closed, and besides, I still have some filling outside. If I don’t go back and deal with it today, it will go bad tomorrow.” Angelia refused.
Jerome looked deeply at her. He didn’t want her to leave, he wanted her…to stay.
Angelia looked at Jerome and didn’t speak, glanced outside the window, and continued, “It’s late now. If Whitfield sends me back, he probably won’t be able to rest until very late. How about he drops me off at the side of the road, and I can take a taxi back?”
“What taxi? Haven’t you seen the news recently? It’s not safe to take a taxi in the middle of the night, Whitfield.” Jerome shouted, stood up and looked at Angelia, and ordered, “Safely send her home.”
“Oh, okay.” Whitfield immediately agreed.
Angelia also stood up.
Jerome didn’t hug her, as if restraining himself, his hands were in his pockets, watching Angelia get into Whitfield’s car…
In the car, Whitfield played beautiful light music, glanced at Angelia, and then his gaze fell on her again.Angelia is a typical beauty with snow-white skin, a small face, big eyes, a high nose bridge, and a plump and rosy mouth.
When she is silent, she is gentle and charming, like a stunning beauty walking out of a painting. When she speaks, she is lively and charming.
When she smiles, she is particularly cute.
Whitfield was startled by the sound of Angelia’s phone ringing and looked away. It was Sammie’s call, but Angelia hung up. The phone rang again, still Sammie’s call, and she hung up again. Eventually, she turned off her phone.
Whitfield noticed Angelia’s expression and asked tentatively, “I heard today at your hotel that you got married. They must have been joking, or was there a misunderstanding?”
“It wasn’t a misunderstanding. I did get married,” Angelia replied.
Whitfield was shocked and asked, “So you’re divorced?”
“No,” Angelia answered frankly.
Whitfield’s mind was blank for a moment, and he thought it was just a joke until he realized that Angelia had actually gotten married. That meant there was no chance for her and Mr. Taylor.
“Many marriages are not based on love, such as Mr. Taylor. His aunt wants to introduce him to her friend’s daughter, Dawn, whom you met last time,” Whitfield said with a smile.
Angelia nodded and vaguely sensed something. “Mr. Taylor’s grandparents also have a candidate for their future daughter-in-law, but Mr. Taylor’s father is not entirely in agreement, and he probably has his own ideas. However, in short, anyone who can marry Mr. Taylor will be the daughter of a powerful family,” Whitfield said happily.
Angelia understood, “Mr. Taylor is so outstanding that even if it’s a socialite, not everyone can match him. You have to choose carefully.””Yes, last time Mr. Taylor didn’t like Dawn. She wasn’t good-looking enough, and her family background wasn’t good enough either. Her parents are both in the arts, her father is apparently the headmaster of a prestigious school, and her mother plays the piano. She has a brother who is somewhat talented and has opened an electronics factory which is doing okay, but compared to Mr. Taylor, it’s nothing. Whitfield continued speaking.
“Mhm,” Angelia responded politely, looking out the window at the flickering streetlights.
As a classmate and employee, she wanted her boss to be happy.
If he was happy, their days as employees would be better. But what was this faint sadness in her heart? Perhaps she was lamenting her own fate. She couldn’t choose, and she couldn’t be picky.
In the end, she was always the one left behind, so she felt inexplicably sad.
Her eyes were filled with sadness, and they were beginning to water. She closed her eyes and let the tears flow back into her body, reversing their course.
Half an hour later, Whitfield parked the car under Angelia’s apartment building.
“I’m here. You’ve really worked hard today. Thank you,” Angelia said, unbuckling her seatbelt and getting out of the car.
Whitfield got out of the car too. “Mr. Taylor instructed me to make sure you get home safely.”
Angelia smiled slightly. “I’ve already arrived safely. It’s very late, so you should go home and rest. I won’t keep you.”
After saying that, Angelia walked towards the building, opened the door, and saw Sammie sitting on the sofa. She sneered, “You and your mother are really birds of a feather. You quietly had keys made for my apartment.”
“You’re my wife, so of course I should have keys,” Sammie said firmly.
Angelia’s eyes flashed with anger. “Well, you’re my husband, so why don’t I have the right to know the address of your villa?”Sammie stood up anxiously and said, “So you secretly followed Read and still want to cause trouble for him. Is it necessary?”
“You know that it’s unnecessary for me to cause trouble for him. If I wanted to, I should have gone to Quinton first!” Angelia raised her voice in response to Sammie’s words.
Sammie was confused for a moment and then understood, “So you didn’t cause trouble for him. Then why did you go to the villa?”
Angelia didn’t want to explain anything to Sammie. She had nothing to say to someone like him, even though he was her nominal husband. He had caused her too much injustice and embarrassment. She brushed her hair and turned her head to calm her emotions. She said as calmly as possible, “It’s late, and I want to rest. Please leave.”
Sammie noticed the wound on Angelia’s hand and held her hand, “What happened? Did he do this?”
Angelia was about to speak when she saw someone standing at the door out of the corner of her eye.
Whitfield looked at Angelia in shock, then at Sammie. Many thoughts collided in his mind. He felt that it was inappropriate for him to appear at this time, so he immediately turned around and left.
Angelia estimated that Whitfield didn’t hear much, or he wouldn’t have appeared so recklessly at the door. She pulled her hand away, closed the door, and faced Sammie.
“Forget it, Sammie. Even if you know, what can you do? There is a difference between close and distant relationships. In your heart, I am not as good as Read. So you listened to him and thought he was wronged, and then came to question me. I don’t need your sympathy, charity, or help. Don’t come looking for trouble.”
Sammie looked at Angelia’s red eyes and felt a little uncomfortable. “I’ll go ask him.”
Angelia watched Sammie leave and locked the door. She went to the kitchen and looked at the dumplings on the cutting board.
She had planned to make them for Jerome, but because of this and that, she had been delayed.
Thinking of Jerome’s focused expression when he was treating her wound, she felt a little warmth in her heart.
The next day, she set her alarm and woke up at five o’clock.
She made sixty dumplings, put them in a box, and sent them to Jerome’s house.
Whitfield answered the door and said, “Mr. Taylor is not at home.”
Angelia smiled and said, “Oh, it’s okay. These are dumplings. You can put them in the freezer and they won’t spoil. When he’s home, you can cook them for him.”
Whitfield didn’t even look at the dumpling box and closed the door.
Angelia was confused by Whitfield’s strange attitude towards her.
She took a few steps outside, turned around, and looked upstairs.
Jerome was standing at the window, looking at her expressionlessly with a deep and cold gaze.
Angelia felt like she had fallen into a freezing valley.
Why did he lie to her and say he wasn’t home when he clearly was?
Even though Whitfield closed the door, he didn’t say anything, as if he intentionally wanted Whitfield to close it, and was deliberately guarding against her.
This feeling made Angelia very uncomfortable, as if she was being hated and rejected.
Did her behavior of coming over early in the morning to deliver dumplings make him disgusted?
Just like how June seduced him and was fired the next day.
He misunderstood her, she didn’t want to seduce him.
Immediately, she took out her phone and sent a message to Jerome.
“You didn’t finish the dumplings yesterday, so I made more and brought them over today. There’s no other meaning behind it.”
After sending the message, she looked upstairs.
Jerome was gone, even the curtains were drawn.
Angelia’s heart sank even more.
If she sent another message or called again, it would seem like she was being clingy.
She turned around and walked slowly towards the road, taking out her phone to check if Jerome had replied.
She got on the bus, leaned against the window, and couldn’t understand why Jerome was treating her like this today.
Was it because she didn’t call ahead before coming over?
She couldn’t figure it out.
Her phone beeped, and she immediately took it out to check.
It was a congratulatory message from her mobile provider.
She put her phone away with disappointment.
Jerome still hadn’t replied to her message even after she arrived at Detroit Hospital. However, the good news is that this morning, grandma safely came out of the intensive care unit, and all the check-up data was normal.
Angelia was happy and took Alyssa out to eat.
“Mom, I heard from Mrs. that your husband came to see her and transferred her to the ICU. I don’t believe it. It doesn’t seem like something your scumbag husband would do,” Alyssa said while gnawing on a chicken wing.
Angelia smiled lovingly at the little troublemaker.
She didn’t answer directly, “Is Mrs. feeling better? Are you happy, Alyssa?”
“Of course I’m happy. Mrs. is not as good as my mom. She doesn’t even know to come to the hospital when she’s sick. Oh, by the way, Mom, I want to tell you something?” Alyssa put down the chicken bone, looking excited.
“Hmm.” Angelia patiently listened and even gave Alyssa another chicken wing.
“I passed by the ICU this morning and heard an old man with white hair on the phone saying that Mrs. used a total of 240,000 Dollar and asked the hospital to change it to 20,000 Dollar. He said it was Mr. Taylor’s instructions. Mom, who is Mr. Taylor? Is he the one who helped us this time?” Alyssa asked with her head tilted.
Angelia looked surprised at Alyssa.
Many thoughts collided in her mind.
He had helped her a lot but deliberately didn’t let her know.
He even refused her dumplings.
Was he worried that she would pester him or that she had other thoughts about him?
At night, Auntie took Alyssa back, and Angelia stayed to accompany her grandma.
She lay on her grandma’s bed, staring at her phone.
Jerome still hadn’t replied to her.
This person seemed to have disappeared suddenly.
“Missing Sammie?” Grandma asked kindly.
“No,” Angelia explained and put her phone in her bag.Grandma, if you understand, “Go back, I’m fine now. There’s Auntie here, Alyssa is here, and the villagers come to accompany me. Don’t make too much noise. The doctor said I’m fine, and I can be discharged in two days. You still have to work.”
“I took a leave of absence, and besides, Alyssa will go to school tomorrow, and Auntie will take care of her. I will stay with Grandma.” Angelia firmly said.
Grandma looked at Angelia lovingly, “If you have something to do, go ahead and don’t worry about Grandma. I’m fine. If you stay by my side, I will be more at ease.”
“I know.” Angelia replied, yawning as she had little sleep the night before.
“Come up and sleep on the bed with me. We’ll squeeze together.” Grandma moved over a bit.
“Grandma is a patient.” Angelia reminded her.
“It’s not an external injury. I haven’t slept with Angelia for a long time.” Grandma said softly.
Angelia laughed, “I haven’t slept with Grandma for a long time either.”
She climbed onto Grandma’s bed, smelling the familiar scent of Grandma, and remembered when Grandma almost passed away, she still had lingering fears.
“In the future, remember to come to the hospital for blood transfusions every week. After the transfusion, you may feel weak. You must let Auntie accompany you. Don’t worry about money. I found a new job with an annual salary of 200,000 Dollar. The boss said that if I do well, he will give me a raise.” Angelia reminded her.
Grandma stroked Angelia’s head, “I knew our Angelia would be successful. You’ve always been obedient, sensible, and good at learning, never letting adults worry about you.”
Angelia’s eyes turned red, “For me, the most important things in the world are Grandma and Alyssa. Grandma, you must be healthy and live a long life.”
“Okay, Grandma will accompany you and Alyssa in good health. Go to sleep.” Grandma said softly.
Angelia closed her eyes and fell asleep soon, but she didn’t sleep very well.
She dreamed that someone pushed her into the sea and she was about to drown.
She begged for help from the people on the boat.On the ship, there was a mother, a father, a stepmother, a younger sister, and Wettiner, Jerome, and Whitfield. No one saved her, they watched her coldly as she was about to drown.
Her grandmother came from above and wanted to save her, but was pushed into the sea.
She swam desperately towards her grandmother, watching her disappear into the sea.
Her heart was in pain, tears streamed down her face, and when she opened her eyes, she realized it was a dream, with tears still on her face.
Fortunately, her grandmother was asleep and did not notice.
She wiped away her tears, went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash up.
Although the dream was fake, she still felt sad. After washing up, she came out and checked her phone, it was 6:10 and Jerome still hadn’t replied to her text.
She thought he wouldn’t reply to her, just like he was on the ship, cold. She went out to buy breakfast and came back, her grandmother was already awake.
After breakfast, she accompanied her grandmother for a walk. At around 8 o’clock, her phone rang.
She knew it couldn’t be Jerome’s, so she answered it calmly, it was Sammie, “What’s wrong?”
“Angelia, what’s wrong with you? Didn’t we agree not to sue my mother’s friend? She received a court summons today.”
Sammie said angrily.
“I didn’t sue, you should ask about the situation before getting angry with me.” Angelia hung up the phone.
Five minutes later, Sammie called again, and Angelia impatiently answered, “What’s wrong again?”
“It’s Jerome, Jerome is going to sue my mother’s friend for slander.” Sammie said.
“That’s not my problem, you should talk to Jerome, not me.” Angelia was ready to hang up.
“You have to help me with this.” Sammie ordered.
“Sorry, I can’t help you.”
“Aren’t you supposed to give him a job? It’s because of you that this happened, talk to him and tell him not to sue, he should listen.” Sammie said anxiously.”Your employee asked you not to sue, would you not sue?” Angelia asked.
“As long as you make him not sue, I promise you, we will divorce in a year,” Sammie said, feeling a tightness in his heart. He and Angelia had known each other for five years.
The word “divorce” had never come out of his mouth before, and he felt a lonely sense of desolation. Perhaps he was not used to it, so he felt uncomfortable.
Angelia paused, “I’ll call you later.”
She didn’t want her grandmother to know about her marital problems, worried that her grandmother’s health would suffer.
“If you have something to do, just go. I’m fine. Look, grandma is doing well now,” Grandma said with concern.
“Okay,” Angelia responded. After sending her grandmother back, she immediately called Sammie back, “What you just said is true?”
“Yeah, haven’t you always wanted a divorce? I promised you, are you regretting it now?” Sammie asked with a smirk, casually.
Angelia wasn’t regretting it, she was just afraid that Sammie would go back on his word.
“Words are empty, actions speak louder than words. I don’t want to be disappointed a year later,” Angelia said sensibly.
Sammie felt even more uncomfortable in his heart.
Did she really want a divorce so eagerly?
He was the future heir of Sammie’s family, and Whittaker was his grandfather.
Forget it, he’ll wait and see if she regrets it. Ignoring the discomfort in his heart, he said, “Okay, where are you now? I’ll come find you.”
“Four hours later, come to my place,” Angelia said and hung up the phone.
She went back home, drafted the agreement, took out the agreement she had signed with Sammie in the past, checked it repeatedly, made sure there were no problems, and printed it out.
There was a knock on the door.
Angelia opened the door.
Sammie came in casually, wearing a dark blue striped suit.
She handed the agreement to Sammie, “Take a look and see if there are any problems. If there are no problems, sign it and stamp it. We’ll record a video later.””There’s no need to make such a big deal out of this. Finding a wife for me, Sammie, is actually very easy,” said Sammie with a strange tone.
“Of course, I believe that,” Angelia agreed with Sammie, and her gaze drifted towards the agreement, explaining, “It’s very clear on the agreement that I owe you 400,000, and I will pay it off within five years. If I fail to do so, interest will be calculated at an annual rate of 10%, which is higher than the bank’s interest.”
“No need, consider the 400,000 as a gift from me to you. Use it to buy candy for Alyssa,” Sammie sat on the couch like a grandpa.
“Debts must be repaid, thank you for your generosity, Johnson Young Master, but I don’t need it,” Angelia put the pen on the coffee table in front of him.
She positioned her phone and began recording.
Sammie wanted to say something, but seeing Angelia recording, he acted cool and signed his name on the agreement.
Angelia handed him a red seal. “Press your fingerprint on your name.”
Sammie took the seal and pressed his fingerprint on it impatiently. “Is that enough?”
Angelia sat next to Sammie. “Sammie, do you agree to divorce in a year?”
“Provided that you get Jerome to drop charges against my mom’s friend,” Sammie added.
“Sammie, if Angelia can get Jerome to drop charges against Elaine for defamation, do you agree to divorce in a year without being bound by the previous marriage agreement, and give up custody and visitation rights of Angelia’s daughter?” Angelia repeated.
Sammie paused, breathing heavily as he looked at Angelia. He realized that Angelia was serious, and if he agreed, they would really get divorced in a year.
“You don’t have to be so serious about this,” Sammie changed the subject. He didn’t want to talk about it. It was just a defamation charge, wasn’t it?
Why should he give up his marriage? He felt that things were fine the way they were now. He could play around while having a beautiful and almost perfect wife at home.
“Do you agree or not?” Angelia urged.”I got it,” Sammie impatiently said.
“I got it, it means you agreed, right?” Angelia asked.
“Uh-huh,” Sammie replied, but then regretted it, “But if you can’t convince Jerome, it doesn’t count.”
Angelia put away the agreement on the table, checked it up and down, and made sure that Sammie had signed in all the necessary places.
She turned off her phone’s recording, saved it, sent it to her email to ensure that nothing went wrong, and uploaded it to her cloud storage.
Sammie curled up on the sofa, looking smugly at Angelia, “When are you going to see Jerome?”
Angelia lowered her eyes.
She guessed that Jerome didn’t want to see her and it would be difficult to persuade him to agree.
But this was her hard-won freedom, and she had to try her best.
“That’s my business,” Angelia said coldly.
Sammie sneered, “You’re not going to see him, are you? Then my mother will definitely want to have a good chat with you about your future.”
Angelia put the agreement and phone in her bag and left directly. She stood under a locust tree, took a deep breath, and plucked up the courage to call Jerome.
Jerome ignored her call.
Angelia’s heart sank. Even though she had anticipated this result, it still made her uncomfortable when it actually happened.
She gathered her courage and called again, but Jerome ignored her call once more.
Helpless, she could only call Whitfield, who also hung up on her. But he sent a simple message that said, “Stop calling.”
Angelia looked at Whitfield’s message and sighed.
She tried calling again, but she was probably blacklisted. However, she still went to Jerome’s villa for her future.
No one was in the villa, and she waited at the door.
She waited for an hour, two hours… until it got dark, and Jerome still didn’t come back.
She sat at his doorstep, watching time pass by.She had thought that Jerome would not come back, but other than waiting here, she had no other way.
This was the distance between her and Jerome, one in the sky and one on the ground.
She had no wings, so there was an impassable gap between them.
After an unknown amount of time, a dazzling light appeared.
Angelia ignited hope and stood up.
Jerome got off the car and went in without acknowledging her open door.
In a state of urgency, Angelia ran in and stopped him.
Jerome frowned and looked at her, unable to hide his annoyance.
“What are you looking for me for?” Angelia said directly, “Can you not accuse Elaine?”
Jerome’s eyes flashed with a fierce light and answered firmly, “No.”
Angelia thought he would be so heartless and said, “She just spoke without thinking. I know you’re angry. What can I do to let Elaine go?”
Jerome asked, “If I want something, will you do it?”
Angelia blurted out, “Yes.”
One year later, she would be free.
This was the thing she had been dreaming of the most.
She thought she could only waste time with Sammie for the rest of her life.
She longed for this freedom, to leave Sammie’s circle, and to return to her true self.
Jerome tightly pursed his lips, annoyed, and flames were jumping rapidly in his eyes.
She actually begged him to let Elaine go for someone who bullied her!
Was her brain squeezed by the door, so her IQ was never online?
She couldn’t even see clearly and still invited that man over in the middle of the night.
He was angry, impulsive, and irrational, and kissed her lips.
Very dominant, his palm went through her hair, holding the back of her head, not allowing her to have any possibility of retreat.
His breath was like a raging wind, attacking her mouth, penetrating her body, and invading her organs.
Angelia was stunned for a second, but then she became angry.
Didn’t he dislike her and despise her?
He deliberately excluded her, didn’t see her, and why did he kiss her?
Wasn’t he afraid that she would seduce him?
She didn’t retreat, but instead took the initiative to kiss him back, which was very awkward, but responded and entered his mouth.
Jerome was stunned, as if he had been electrocuted, and stepped back.
