Chapter 1

“Madeline! Come on! Hurry up!” Mason, who is my elder brother, yelled at me.

“Geez, I told you many times before Mason. I hate it when you yell at me! Alright, I’m coming.” I call out and rushed downstairs. My brother and Kyle were there waiting for me. Kyle was my brother’s best friend, and our packs’ future Alpha. Speaking of ‘future’, he’s actually becoming the Alpha in just a couple of hours. Kyle was turning 18 tomorrow.

“Hey Kyle.” I greeted him.

“Good morning, Madeline.” He flashed me a gorgeous smile that would make any girl swoon.

“Are you excited to find your mate tomorrow?” I asked. He nodded at me.

“I bet she’s gorgeous.” He said with hope in his eyes. Kyle wasn’t one of those player Alphas. Sure, he had a lot of girlfriends throughout the pass year. But he never brought a girl home and had his way with her then dumped her.
“Come on, lets go.” Mason shook his head at his best friend and we walked to Kyle’s car. It was a sliver BMW. My brother sat in the passenger seat and I chose to sit in the backseat.

“Kyle is so hot, don’t you think?” My best friend, Daisy, moaned. I rolled my eyes at her.

“Kyle is turning 18 and you’re only 15. I don’t think he likes younger girls. Plus, he is going to find his mate tomorrow and I’m pretty sure that’s not you. Because no one’s mate has ever been younger than 16.” I told her as I put my books away.

“Ugh! You killed my vibe, Madeline. By the way, you know way too much for a human.” She stuck her tongue at me.

“Honey, you had no vibe.” I patted her shoulder, playfully. She pushed my hand off of her and rolled her eyes.

“But still, I find Kyle so hot to me.” She claimed again while raising her eyebrow.

“He’s attractive but not my type, and he’s too old for me.” I said and closed my locker. She chuckled and stopped once she looked behind me. I turned around and surely enough, Kyle was standing there with a smirk on his face.

“Aww, Madeline. My heart is broken.” He mocked, putting his hand over his heart.

“Is it? But the good thing is, I don’t care.” I teased with a small smile.

“Well, that’s not the way you want to treat your future Alpha.” He crossed his arms. His muscles flexed as he did so.

“Sorry, Alpha sir.” I saluted with a serious face.

“Now Ms. Longfellow, as a punishment, you will be tasked to clean the entire pack house.” He said with the same amount of seriousness. I shook my head.

“I am not a maid, Sir.” I raised my eyebrow the slightest bit.
“That’s bad.” He said seriously, but I could see the amusement in his eyes. The bell rung and the sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway.

“Nice meeting with you, Sir.” I bowed my head in a teasing way.

“The pleasure was all mine, Ms. Longfellow.” He said and we walked passed each other. Daisy followed me, looking like she was about to faint. She had a small thing for Kyle but who in the pack didn’t, well besides me. We entered the classroom and took our seats.

“Good Afternoon, students. We will start this wonderful evening with a pop quiz.”

Groans filled the room. I’m so gonna fail!

“Lets get ready!”Daisy squealed. She grabbed my hand and pulled me upstairs. Currently we were at Daisy’s house getting ready for Kyle’s birthday party. We spent the whole day shopping for a proper dress. Daisy’s dress was a white and sparkly. She matched her’s with white flats. Daisy’s not one to wear heels so decided on wearing flats. My dress was a black one with a gold sweetheart. I wore black heels and gold jewelry to match.

Daisy’s everyday wavy hair was pin straight and half was up with a pretty bow holding it up. My straight hair was in neatly placed curls. Once we were done with our makeup, we met up with my brother who was outside waiting for us in his sleek black car.
“You two look great.”He said with a smile on his face.

“Thanks.”We said in one voice. He drove off and we were there in no time. Daisy’s family and my family didn’t live in the pack house because we weren’t all wolves. It’s to keep us protected just in case something gets out of control in the pack house. We pulled up to the pack house and got off the car. My brother went his separate way probably going to meet up Kyle.
“We should have followed him. I wanted to say Happy Birthday to Kyle.”I frowned. Daisy nodded and we went in the same direction that my brother did.

“Happy Birthday!”I heard Daisy shout happily. I followed her and saw Kyle.
“Happy Birthday.”I smiled. His eyes darkened as he stared at me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

“Are you okay, dude?”Mason asked, patting his back.

“Yeah.”He quickly shook his head and walked away. I looked at him worried and followed him outside to the garden.

“Kyle, are you alright?”I asked him, grabbing his hand. Soon his lips were pressed against mine. I was shocked by this action, so I tried to pull away from him. But then, he growled at me.

“What are you doing?”I yelled, bewildered. I took a step away from him and he pulled me closer to him.

“Madeline, you’re my mate.”He whispered, lovingly.

“What?”My jaw dropped.

“You’re my mate.”

“No! That’s not possible. I’m only 15, you’re 18.”I shook my head and looked down at my hands. He grabbed my chin gently and pecked my lips.

“Madeline, what I’m about to do is for you not me.”He pulled away from me, sadness and regret in his eyes. I stared at him confused as he sighed.

“I, Kyle Carter, reject you Madeline Longfellow as my mate.”He said, sadly. Honestly, it hurt more than I thought it would. I nodded and gave a fake smile.

“So that means we are just friends?”I held out my hand, hiding my sadness.

“Yes, friends.”He agreed and shook my hand. I slowly walked away and went inside of the pack house. I looked for Daisy and once I found her she was smiling brightly.

“Guess what?”She smiled, excitement clearly in her eyes.

“What?”

“I heard Kyle found his mate.”My eyes widen. How would she know?

“Really?”I said, faking surprise. She nodded.

“Yeah. His mate is Kaylee.”She told. He lied. I shook my head and smiled.

“That’s great.”

We stayed until he was crowned Alpha of the Night Wanderer pack. People were cheering and clapping. Kyle stood at the top of the stairs case with his arms wrapped around Kaylee’s waist. Kaylee looked happy as ever and Kyle had a smile on but it didn’t reach his eyes. His eyes met mine and we stared at each other until I looked away.

“I’m ready to go home.”I looked away from him and faced Daisy. She nodded and smiled.

“Same here. Lets go.”She turned around and walked to the car. I followed her but turned around to send a smile to Kyle and turned back around to follow Daisy. I could feel his eyes on my back as I walked away. Tears prickled in my eyes as I climbed into the car.

“Are you okay?”Daisy asked, looking at me as I put my seat belt on.

“Yeah.”I said and shook my head. She looked at me and raised her eyebrow.

“No, I’m not.”
