Angelia cupped his face. “If I give you a son, will your mom stop being so hard on me?”

“Of course. The Sammie family has passed down a single heir for nine generations. We definitely need a son. My mom’s just harsh with her words but soft-hearted deep down. In the future, everything will be about our son,” Sammie confidently replied.

Out of the corner of her eye, Angelia saw Aimee returning.

“I’ve been raising Alyssa on my own, and I’m tired. I hope that in the future, you’ll be my solid, strong, and loyal harbor, someone I can depend on, so I don’t have to keep wandering and drifting anymore.”

Sammie nodded. “Of course. It’s good that you’re thinking this way.”

“After dinner, have someone bring Alyssa over, okay? I really miss her. And it’s about time she starts calling you ‘dad,’” Angelia said softly.

“You haven’t answered me yet. When will you move into the villa with me?” Sammie sidestepped her request.

“Maybe this week. Moving takes some time to organize.”

“All your stuff here is old. Don’t bother bringing it. My place has everything, especially your bed—it’s squeaky and the soundproofing is terrible. The neighbors might even file a noise complaint against us.”

    “Mm.” Angelia nodded.

“The day you stop being shy when we’re together and don’t need the lights off, I’ll let you see Alyssa,” Sammie promised.

    Angelia’s heart sank.

There was no way she’d sleep with him.

    But Alyssa…

Feeling lost, she wandered back to the kitchen. Her phone rang.

She saw it was an unknown caller and didn’t answer.

Then a text came in: “I’m zoey, a friend of Jerome. Alyssa has been rescued. She’s on her way to your apartment in A City.”

Hope flickered inside Angelia as she glanced at Sammie, who was still playing on his phone.

If Alyssa had been rescued, Sammie’s men should have reported it to him by now.

She felt a bit uneasy, wondering if the message was fake.

Angelia hid the MSG in the cupboard and came out. “Sammie, we’re out of MSG. I’ll run to the shop real quick and be back soon.”

“Mm,” Sammie mumbled without looking up from his phone.

Angelia grabbed her bag and quickly left. Once outside, she called zoey.

After three rings, zoey picked up.

“Where’s Alyssa?” Angelia asked. “Can she talk to me?”

“Mom, mom, it’s me, Alyssa! Jerome Dad sent someone to rescue me! I’m in the car right now,” Alyssa said excitedly.

“Alyssa, can you give the phone to the uncle with you? Mommy needs to talk to him.”

“Okay,” Alyssa obediently handed the phone over.

“Hello, how are you?” zoey’s voice came through.

“How exactly did you manage to rescue Alyssa? What happened to the two people guarding her?” Angelia asked cautiously.

Sammie was way too calm, making her suspect that zoey might be a spy sent by Sammie.

“We’ve been tracking Sammie for a while. This morning, he went to see Alyssa, and we detained the two people watching her. We have enough evidence to file kidnapping charges against Sammie anytime,” zoey explained.

“Do you know where Jerome’s apartment in A City is?” Angelia asked one final question.

Only a few people knew that address.

“Yes, it’s EMBER Garden, 1702. Jerome lives in 1701. We’ll arrive in about an hour. When can you make it?”

Angelia finally believed him and breathed a sigh of relief. Overcome with emotion, she said, “I’m on my way now.”

She quickly hailed a cab and had just boarded a bus headed for A City when Sammie called.

“Where are you? Why aren’t you back yet? How long does it take to buy some MSG?” Sammie asked, clearly irritated.

“Sammie, ever since we got married, it’s always been an arrangement. It’s been five years now. It’s time for us to end this,” Angelia calmly responded.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Alyssa has been rescued. There’s no need for me to keep pretending with you.” As soon as Angelia finished speaking, Sammie hung up.

She knew he was calling his people to check.

A moment later, her phone rang again—it was Sammie.

    She answered.

“So you slept with me just to get Alyssa out, and now you’re talking about divorce? You weren’t trying to fix things between us at all!” Sammie shouted, no longer calm.

“I’m never going to have a real relationship with you,” Angelia replied coldly. “You’ve got two options: we divorce by agreement, and I leave with nothing, or we go through the courts.”

“I’ve got money, I’ve got power. You think you can fight me? Have you lost your mind, or did a donkey kick you in the head?” Sammie ranted.

“If anyone’s lost their mind, it’s you! You kidnapped me, you kidnapped Alyssa. I’ve got witnesses and evidence. If this goes to court, everything will come out—your deal with Gu Feng, those models, Mike—none of it will stay hidden. This won’t just be a divorce; you could end up in jail.”

“You’re really that ruthless!!!” Sammie roared.

“The ruthless ones are you guys.”

“What do you think will happen when you leave me? Go back to your ex? He’s even worse than me! Or Jerome? His family will never accept you. He’s just playing with you.”

“I married you for my grandmother. Now that your mom’s stress killed her, what reason do I have to stay? Tomorrow, 10 AM, at the civil affairs bureau. If you don’t want to divorce, then we’ll meet in court.” Angelia hung up.

Sammie was furious. He slammed his phone down and stomped on it. “Divorce, divorce, Angelia, I’ll make sure you regret this!”

Angelia took a deep breath and looked out the window.

    This marriage was definitely over.

    Her phone rang again.

    It was Aimee.

Well, birds of a feather—they really were a perfect match.

    She answered.

“You used me today, didn’t you?” Aimee accused.

“I wouldn’t call it that. You gave me two million, and I helped you get Sammie. You got what you wanted.”

    “What about Alyssa?”

“Sammie kidnapped her to stop me from divorcing him. He threatened me to sleep with him. Once I divorce him, you can marry him. Isn’t that what you want? Our deal ends here. Don’t call me again.” Angelia hung up and immediately blocked Aimee’s number.

“Wow, the H currency is tanking. H country is done for,” someone nearby exclaimed.

Angelia’s heart tightened, wondering how Jerome was holding up.

He was like a general, protecting her and rescuing Alyssa, but he was still fighting far away, uncertain of his fate.

No matter the outcome, she knew he was struggling right now.

Her heart ached as she dialed Jerome…
